Golf coming sunday South of London
« on: November 22, 2005, 12:48:06 PM »
Itīs a bit short notice, but...

Iīll be on a business trip to London and my sunday plans were cancelled.
If somebody would want to play golf with a Finn and talk about architecture IM me.

Ville,

If nobody picks this up, ring The Addington (020) 8777 1055, I think they allow visitors on a Sunday.  It's a short taxi ride from East Croydon Station (along Addiscombe Road to Shirley Road and Shirley Church Road where the golf club is located).

I also think that New Zealand will allow visitors if there is a space (01932-345049 or 01932 349619) (train to West Byfleet and short walk along Madeira Road and Sheerwater Road - passing West Byfleet Golf Club on the way).

Hankley Common also accept some weekend visitors, although it's a bit hard to get to - you'd need to take a train to Farnham and a taxi from there. (01252 792493 or 01252 793761)

West Surrey might also take you - it's about a 15 minute walk from Milford Station (01483 421275 or 01483 417278).

Mark.

Ville - you should know that the weather forecast is looking pretty poor at present - sleet showers and 5 degrees celsius.

If the weather is not dreadful I am supposed to be playing at Huntercombe on Sunday am(30 min west of Heathrow). There will probably be a chance you could join - call me if nothing better comes up on 44-207-3950439.

Is there not an old Finnish saying that roughly translates as:

"Nae sleet,nae gowf!"

I wouldn't be so sure Rich - last year when I went round the Old Course with 3 boys from Iceland they cried off after nine holes on account of the weather, leaving me as a one ball! Admittedly, they were "yoof" and had clearly had a hard night on the tiles the night before.

Philip

Don't forget the fact that the Vikings called Icleand "Iceland" because it was warm and green.  They called Greenland "Greenland" because it was anything but.  All the better to fool to southern Euros........

We do have a saying in Finland stating:
"Stand start", which I think would translate to something like staying up all night and then to work, golf or somewhere without closing your eyes.

Good one, Ville :)

I (and many of my friends) resemble that remark.
