shivas:

It was about 275 to the gorse, into a strong wind.  Now of course I am setting myself up for some Goodalian jabs by admitting this, but let's just say I had few worries about going too far.  Too right, yes.  Too far, no.

It made a whole hell of a lot more sense than hitting straight into a minefield of bunkers, in any case.

Check out the link I posted before.  Look at the numbers.  It ought to make sense.

May as well let the Dog see the Rabbit...

...and as for the road on the right, as one who has frequented it on occasion, I recall it as being more of one of those Links Trust crushed seashell paths, which is actually relatively pleasant to play from!

FBD:  muchas gracias, mi amigo.

Yes, that road is no sweat whatsoever.  I do recall though that right of it was no fun.  The aiming point the caddies wanted was just left of the road... and well, I surely don't possess the exact precision of that pro Rich Goodale - I mean, who does? - so going farther right was a worry.  But it was a small one at best.  We aimed at the middle of the gorse-bush and all ended up just fine, not in the glory that is Huckaby's hole, but definitely avoiding the awful fate that awaits one in the hairy pits.

"Why would that be a better angle than either of the two tee angles currently in place?"

Because you'd be playing straight at the upslope!!

"Hell, at that think about the approach to the 4th green at PV from the parking lot/firing range. And that one could very well be reached from the tee with proper curb height on the driveway down from the tee. The trouble would be stopping the ball in that little patch of turf in the middle there."

Sully, have you totally lost your mind? I don't even know what you're talking about. What are you talking about?? Firing range? What firing range? I know PVGC like the back of my hand and I've never seen a combined parking lot/firing range. I've never even seen a firing range/firing range down there. I think you've completely lost your mind this time.

Go to your room!

We must begin a campaign to have these names adopted forthwith!

As I recall, going WAAAAYYY right probably leaves a reasonably obstruction-free shot from the 3rd fairway of the Eden Course!!! ;D
