In the next five years and change as I hit 40,000 we’ll be coming around the bend and in a decade as I hit 60,000 we’ll all be in the Promised-land---don’t anyone doubt it or deny it. Although some kind of new/old, next-level, triple-wide, “Lines of Curvy Charm” Max Behrian new construction is in the back of my mind, my bag is really restoration and at 7:27 this morning a scheme hit me how to accomplish that BIG-TIME. It’ll take the active participation of all of us on here.

For all of the kidding and pointed jibes coming your way about spending all of that time writing 20,000 LENGTHY posts on GCA, don't forget that it's coming from folks who took the time to read and often respond to 20,000 LENGTHY posts of yours.    

Don't forget...if you had accidentally managed to kill JFK in that near head-on collision, you would have changed the course of history as it's quite unlikely that Arlen Specter would still be the Senator from your home state.  

That's a heavy weight to bear.

Well, now, that pretty much proves it---you do read way, way, WAY TOO MUCH!! You need to get your nose out of those musty, dusty old chronicles and GOLFCLUBATLAS.com too. Next year I'll come out there and get you and the both of us will go out and see the world of golf course architecture on the ground and then we'll see how much we agree or disagree. We'll start at PVGC and end up at TOC looking at #18 from 381 and 1/2 different angles and then we can decide if Old Tom Morris was any good or not.

Speaking of fish, if you haven't already done it, go to the thread entitled "Posting without Tom Paul..." and in the second post by Jim Thompson click on the hyerlink "So long and, thanks for all the fish." You won't be the same again nor will I. How those glorious porpussies got past the line "And let's all join life's great gene pool" as beautifully as they did is almost beyond me.

Donnie, I know you're out fishering off Fishing Island a lot and I'd like to know if you've ever spoken to a porpoise about whether or not the front section of the Biaritz should be green-surface or not? If you haven't I suggest you do. I think you'd be quite amazed and pleased by what he might say.

I was seated on a plane this fall next to a guy who helps construct courses.  I told him I participated on this website and his immediate response was "Those guys are crazy.  That Tom Paul . . . ."  He never completed the thought but clearly was contemplating some vivid memory.

I've always been interested in golf, but not particularly in architecture.  I am also an avid reader.  Consistently, I found the most interesting golf writing to relate to golf course architecture.  This site provides an interactive ability to continue to be entertained on a subject that I now find I ponder constantly.

I really appreciate your entertaining take on architecture, playing the game and am always interested to hear about what else is on your mind.

To put this in a humorous perspective, I teed it up this summer with a couple posters and someone who hadn't seen the site. The fellow who hadn't seen the site was asking us questions, one of which was how many posts each of us had made. When I said, "I'm closing in on 3,000", one of the other posters turned to me with a wry smile and said, "That's not something to be proud of."

The other amazing thing about Tom P's total is that he rarely gets involved in the event planning threads, the college football tussles, and the political mudslinging battles that really get a person's total up quickly. (Don't ask me how I know this.)

We have learned much from you in the last 5 years or so, quite a bit about golf architecture, but more particularly on how to succesfully circulate in patrician golfing social circles while being completly inebriated and still receive high praise from the victims of our musings for our rum donkey architectural pontifications simply because we were introduced as your friends.We received instant credibilty by association, what a wonderful illusion. I seem to recall a particularly passionate discussion on the "lines of charm" where our host at a very famous club was completely enthralled by my monologue and he seemed to hang on my every word, which was highly amazing as I was so blitzed there wasn't a vowel to be had in the entire missive. As I recall, my traveling companion narrowly avoided slipping in to the arms of Orpheus precisely when his lamb chops were served.

The "maniacs from Boston" salute you, and be forewarned, we will be making a holiday season visit to the wilds of Philly. Please make the normal reservations at the de-tox center for us, and if it's not too much trouble could you please request Deltricia as our counselor, I do so love the whips and chains.
