Golf in Seattle
« on: November 13, 2005, 08:38:17 PM »
I'll be traveling to Seattle this week for meetings in Redmond. Can anyone suggest a daily fee track worth playing in or around the area? (convenient to Redmond if possible).
Thanks!
Chip

Sadly, there is a gaping hole in real quality public golf in the Seattle area.  Willows Run is actually in Redmond and is about as enjoyable as any public facility inside of an hour's drive...

Are you staying in the Redmond/Bellevue area or are you in Seattle, Seattle gives you some better options with limited travel

The best public course close to Redmond is Trilogy, a Gary Panks design.  Its a good course and in well maintained.

Willows Run has two courses, but they are nothing special and have poor drainage.

Be sure to bring your rain gear!  Gortex is your friend this time of year in Seattle.

Thanks all!
I'll be staying in Redmond / Bellvue area, although I plan to play prior to meetings on my way from the airport so I guess more areas are open to play.

Chip,

     From the airport to Bellevue, there is really only one course worthwhile that comes into play and that is Coal Creek at NewCastle. It is a Bob Cupp course, with fantastic views of the mountains and the Seattle/Bellevue skylines. It is a great winter course in that it is one of the best draining courses around.  There are two courses at Newcastle, neither of them are great but there are some very good golf holes there (and some downright goofy ones also.  It was a very difficult property with about 350 feet of elevation change and built on a construction landfill.  Its also pricey and is very much a CCFAD.

    The best courses in Seattle area are private or not actually in Seattle. The best public course is the Olympic Course at Gold Mtn and is a short ferry boat ride away in Gorse/Bremerton. The course will hold the 2006 Men's Publinks.  Also in that area is Trophy Lake by John Fought.  Both of these courses are new and drain well.

   I'm sure you'll notice I mentioned drainage alot.   ;D  This time of year, drainage is very important because of the weather from Nov - May and many of the older courses do not drain well.

Craig;
I hear you about drainage having lived in coastal massachusetts and having soggy Spring and Autumn.
Appreciate the heads up on Coal Creek - will let you know how it turns out!
