North Fulton GC?
« on: November 12, 2005, 09:34:48 AM »
I know this has been discussed but I'm inept with the search engine.

I've got to make a quick trip to Atlanta in the next couple of weeks and might be able to slip in a round of golf.  Should I try North Fulton?

What sayeth the Atlantans?

I haven't lived in Atlanta in 12 years but I would say yes to seeing North Fulton with a couple of caveats: 1. pace of play can be slow 2. The conditioning may not be the best.

The course is in town so it's convenient to the Buckhead area. To me the real strength of the course was the routing on a small piece of land.

Yes, do it. It is not going to be in very good shape, but there are some very good holes. There are some dull holes too, but still worth a round.

I would also recommend Mike Young's Wolf Creek by the airport. A very nice course at a good price that is easy to get to.

Weekday yes, weekend no.

As posted, the pace will be slow, and the conditions rough.  Won't cost you much, though, and it's worth seeing.

I second BCrosby recommendation on Wolf Creek.

I concur with Mr Crockett! Although pace may not even be an issue this time of year as most of the not so serious golfers have put there clubs away and football usually takes care of a number of other potiential impediments. :-* I really like the layout and the last time I played in (July) the greens were in the best shape in years. Hopefully this trend has continued.

I saw a good fist fight break out there on the 5th green one time. Some minor disagreement among the competitors in the group in front of me.

I would encourage you to look elsewhere. North Fulton's proponents are hopeless romantics. You will enjoy much more East Lake or Druid Hills or Capitol City or Atlanta CC or Atlanta Athletic or Marietta or Pine Tree or ....the list goes on

Well, yeah, except all of those are private, and in some cases VERY private.  If you have access to East Lake or ACC, or Peachtree, for that matter, go for it.

North Fulton IS worth seeing to see a golf course by Chandler Egan that is basically the same as when it went on the ground.  Nobody would claim more than that.

John -

No one is claiming N Fulton is a better course than the ones you listed. But if travel time, access and money are considerations, its a good choice near town.

Bogey has all the time, access, and money in the world.

He is commissioner of the Hillbilly tour you know?

But seriously, East Lake is largely corporate meberships. Any assistant bank vice president can get on there. Capitol City is not all that shut in. Peachtree certainly is, which is why I didn't suggest it. Druid Hills does keep its doors pretty tight, but not ultra, hell, Mike might know a half dozen mebers there, and if he does, I would hate to see him waste his time at North Fulton looking for Chandler Egan's lost belt buckle.

Sarge,

Barney named the tour and therefore remains commissioner.  I'm merely his stooge in charge of PR.

BTW, I actually have no interest whatsoever in playing North Fulton.  My post was really just a thinly veiled attempt to garner an invite to one of the clubs you mentioned.   Huckaby said it would work. ;)
