Good question. Masters of the Links and Golden Age of Golf Design are tremendous. The former is something every committee member should be forced to read before assuming their post. If I had to give someone only one book about golf architecture, it would be Masters of the Links hands down. The articles are tremendous, and his pre-article commentary concise, informative and powerful.

Perhaps it is because he makes such a compelling case that there is little to argue about, especially on this forum.

Probably mostly just due to laziness. As Tony says, Geoff's books are very thorough, well researched, and well thought out, so it takes real effort to go beyond what he's already done so well. Paul Daley's books are similar in this respect.

That, plus there is a vocal minority on here that enjoys belittling anyone who reads about gca, labeling them as incapable of independent thought if they agree with something they read, and saying they should play more and read less.

Anyone who hasn't read at least a few of Geoff's book is missing out on something special. I miss him not posting much on here anymore.

I received Geoff's The Art of Golf Design  and Alister MacKenzie's Cypress Point Club for holiday gifts. Both are very well written, designed and should be part of any GCA book collection.

The black and white photos of Cypress Point are breathtaking, especially with Mackenzie's classic car on the fairways!

I have all of Geoff's books - and Paul Daley's - but agree that the Cypress Point book is really special with the black and white photography.

Don't know the answer to Pat's question, but think George probably gave as good an answer as anyone could. Definitely not a Geoff thing. We don't discuss the essays in Paul's golf architecture series either.
