Royal Dublin / Colt course changes article
« on: December 11, 2005, 09:17:19 AM »
From today's Irish Independent website

THERE'S a strange look about Royal Dublin these days. Sand and loam are piled high around some of the closing holes, while strategically-placed diggers appear like the stark, skeletal arms of some giant yellow monster, framed against angry winter skies.

The celebrated links terrain of the Bull Island is underdoing its second major re-shape in 90 years. On this occasion, architect Martin Hawtree is bringing the work of fellow Englishman Harry Colt into the 21st century. Which represents a fascinating change from the situation at Dun Laoghaire GC, where another cherished Colt design is soon to be lost to the developer, only for a Hawtree creation to take its place at a totally new location.
