I know of one that you might like, the 17th at Wyantenuck CC in Gt. Barrington, Ma. It's not quite volcanic but it is cut into the side of an escarpment requiring an approach shot that looks like it's climbing the lava flow. The tee shot takes place on the floor of the river valley and the approach must rise about 40' or so to get on the green surface. There is an opening on the right side that's about 1/3 of the green's width and the left side is guarded by a bunker cut into the face of the escarpment. When you're on the green the surrounding embankments are a good 7' high. The green itself was carved out of the relatively flat ground of the escarpment, where holes 12 and 18 can be found. The green itself has two tiers, the left half being higher than the right half, and its about 25 paces deep and wide. The hole itself is not long, about 400 or so from the tips.

Lots of wedges and/or short irons get used for the approach but I've seen shorter players slam 3 woods to this green knowing that the steep embankments surrounding it will stop the shot in the bowl.

Fun use of a punchbowl green.
