Reverse Old Course ....
« on: October 17, 2005, 09:30:20 AM »
Howdy.

I have had every intention to visit St. Andrews, and it's felt imminent for the past few years.  But between the recent GCA trips - New Mexico, Canadian Rockies (Banff & Jasper), The Dominican Republic (Casa de Campo), LA, San Diego - I hadn't really fit it in yet....   My father and I had also talked about going together - see my feature interview  ;D ...

It was minutes after Ian's recent post about his golf trip with his father that I filled out the application to visit the Old Course - the added bonus .... the Reverse Old Course option in early April.

Well this weekend we got our times.

It will be our first golf trip together.

Rounds:
North Berwick, Old Course - Reverse, Kingsbarns, New Course, Old Course - anti-clockwise - or non-reverse

It was the treehouse that first made me aware when they started the tradition on April Fools day two years ago.  And Jeremy Glenn's great Opinion piece.

Thank you treehouse and Ran.

Cheers

Good for you, Mike! I know you'll have fun.

I was at St. Andrews this past April and watched as golfers played the reverse course. It was very interesting to see.

Playing the clockwise loop will be an added treat!

Great to hear this Mike

Please get and keep in touch with me and FBD (Martin B) so we can coordinate a drinking session or two whilst you and your Dad are here.  And, if you (and I) are lucky, I might just be able to get you a "Reverse Old Course" yardage guide........... ;)

Mike. Two years ago, spurred by Jeremy Glenn's fine piece and links lust, I booked the Reverse package; Anti-Clockwise, The New Course, and on day three, Clockwise. I was really fortunate to have Dave Coyne as caddie; he authored the reverse yardage book provided to us by the starter. What a pleasure!  Our evenings were spent in good company in Anstruther at the Dreel Tavern.  Do enjoy yourselves! PW

My father is a little nervous about playing clockwise for his first experience - I told him he should be nervous about the first time anti-clockwise - because that one will be backwards for him.   :D

Rich,
I am very much looking forward to sharing another beer with you.

Hoping you'll meet us at North Berwick or Kingsbarns...

FBD too!

Paul,
So how was it?

Mike,

You have chosen some very good rounds.  You will enjoy Kingsbarns and will be mystified with TOC.... ;) Play matchplay at North Berwick...

If Rich has not managed to get a yardage book for The Reverse then I will e-mail you the address to get one...I think I got mine on the day anyway from the starters hut...but I will email you anyway..
