To me that Medinah logo, with or without words, looks like the hood ornament on a 1949 Desoto or something.  ;)

Speaking of Tom Paul, the Gulph Mills logo is simple and elegant...a lot like the club, not Tom Paul.  It is the Drexel Paul Cup with a golf club on front on a diagonal.  I believe the Cup has been lost or stolen.  Right, Tom?

I think the best logo is Sleepy Hollow CC's Headless Horseman -- awesome and identifiable!  Plus it scares the dickens out of the little kids on Halloween!!!!   :o

Mike,

But how do the little kids mommies feel about it? ;D

Shivas,

You must be kidding... us, and yourself.

Wayne Morrisson,

If you'll look in TEPaul's barn, in the third stall, under the bales of hay, you'll find the trophy.

Jonathan Doyle,

Tommy Naccarato deserves credit for the Friar's Head logo.

I hope he comes up with another creative idea for a particular golf course.

I think the best ones are a small logo, no words, and the date.

I assume the Boston Golf Club logo refers to the Old Tom Morris saying, "18 stakes in a day", or something like that. I have a habit getting these saying wrong. ::)

Can someone please post Friar's Head logo?

I googled and googled and came up empty. At friarshead.org, which seems to be the club's website, there is really no logo, just stylized words Friar's Head.

I hope that's not it.... ???

Voytek,

Look up Maritime Signal Flags under the international signal code.

Go to the "F" then go to the "H"

Then imagine them on a flag stick and you'll have a concept of the logo.

Friar's Head
Merion
The Creek (Kittleman admires the Creek logo; that's why I like it)
Turnberry
Austin Golf Club

The best logo that I have ever seen is the NorthWest Airlines logo. The n and w blend, and the upper left triangle of the n points to the NW on a compass circle.

Just to clarify......

The credit for the Friar's Head logo should go to one person and one person only--Ken Bakst. The only thing I had to do with it, along with Jim Kidd, was to minimally help contribute to the idea.

Agreed the Creek's logo is super, just that little shorebird.  Very classy along with everything else at that wonderful club.... Thanks for organizing that event to Mike Sweeney.

Thanks Patrick and redanman for posting info on Friar's Head logo.

I think that using maritime flags for a logo for a club on LI shore is a very good idea.

And golfshirts and hats with just that logo and no lettering must look excellent - understated but recognizable to those "in the know".

Go to www.friarshead.org

sign in as a guest and you will see a photo of a flagstick, which is a dead ringer for the logo.

CHC1948,

To borrow an old geometry term, they are similar, but not congruent.

I believe that Charles River dates to 1896

I hope that old Indian chief is getting some royalties-Seminole, Shinnecock, Chas. river, Cherokee, Cuscowilla; and that's without doing any research.

And Pine Valley's logo looks like something you would see on a golf cap you buy at Sears.

I feel such the fool going through all the posts on this topic to ask this question, but can someone please put the Friar's Head logo up here so that we might actually see WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE so that we might be able to make an informed opinion? Or am I the only one who hasn't been there?
