Cary, no architect's work polarizes golfers - and raters - more than Strantz's. Far more so than with Pete Dye, people either love or hate his creations - sometimes both.
Caledonia G&FC in SC is the only one of his that's a consensus thumb's up, all the others generate some deep antagonism somewhere. It's fascinating to observe and I can document that with rater results.
Having said that, some of his courses are generally far more negatively received (Legends at Stonehouse, Tot Hill Farm). Tobaccao Road is the one the splits 50/50 the most heavily. I can see why some hate the roller coaster effect of his holes, though I'm one who happens to love it.
