Downhill and Uphill Par 3's

I recently played Coyote Moon in Truckee, California, a wonderful Brad Bell course which sits high in the Sierras at 6,200 feet. Don't miss it. The highlight was the 214 yard par 3  13th hole, whose green was 100 yards BELOW the tee box. What courses have similar holes? 15 at Cypress. Others? Has anyone ever seen a green 100 yards ABOVE the tee box on a par 3?

100 yards is a long way....are you sure about that?

A rise of 100 yards on a 214 yard par three would be nearly a 50% grade.  It must be 100 feet.  I don't think there is anything in golf that approaches that kind of elevation change.  You'd need a ski lift to get to the green

Flynn's championship course at Eagles Mere in PA had as much elevation change as I've ever seen.  There's a 370-yard hole that dropped 180 feet, a 396 yard and 414 yard hole that rose 130 feet, a 367 yard hole that fell 110 feet and a 149 yard hole that fell 55 feet.

There has been a few similar threads , very recently .

These are maybe a little shorter than you mention , but are a couple of fun holes from Banchory GC on Deeside , which is celebrating its Centenary this year .

The first pic. is of Banchorys 3rd hole , which is 125 yards down to the green .

The second pic is of Banchorys 16th , which plays back up the same hill . The 'Doocot' to the right of the green gives the hole its name .

Cloudcroft, NM (USA) has an opening hole which must be 200-ft. or more in evevation about the green. It is a 320-yard, par-4 that easily driven by many.

Hideaway Hills, near Scranton, has a par three (as well as a par 5) that has a vertical drop of close to 100'.

Mountain Air in NC has elevations on the card.10 is 235 yards and falls 212 feet.Sign said to play it 160,and that was correct.The next hole,a par 5,falls 388 feet.It's 599 yards and was easy to reach in two.

I've encountered quite a few in my home state of Connecticut.  There are two at Hop Meadow CC (my home course) that probably drop about 70-75'.  9 is 228 from the tips, with a pond about 15 yards short o the green, and 16 is about 195 from the tips, with a smallish reen and bunkers left, right, and long.  The third hole, a par three of about 150 yards, rises about 30-40'.  There's one hole at a nine hole private club by the name of Lake Waramaug that drops 50', and is only 140 yards.  

I really like par threes that drop or rise a significant amount.  They challenge the players powers of estimation, and they place a premium of the player's trust in those abilities.  A solid shot on one such hole is absolutely exhilirating (at least for me, anyway).

The 10th at Mountain Air in Burnsville, NC makes the drop-off at Coyote Moon seem like a flat shot. The drop, if memory serves, is in the range of 200 feet. One could shave and still have time to watch the ball land!

I've played Coyote Moon and also enjoyed the course. Too bad they don't have a practice facility on site though.
