You are in the correct country  ;)

I'm wrong then?

This has to be the West coast... Likely Argyl with the land and water behind...

I'm plumping for Machrihanish... No idea which hole...

Or the Forth?

I may as well go through every course in Scotland here. Are we in and around the Moray peninsula?

Give us a clue, Brian   :D

I don't know the course, but that's definitely Dan King in the center foreground.

Brian E. -

Thanks for your consideration, but please don't wait on me! ;)

If the course is in the same county as Elie, that would make it in Fife, where my golf course knowledge/experience is very limited. I have no idea which course this might be.

I said Country , not County , so not in Fife .

Not sure , but I would guess this pic. was taken before the James Braid re-design ?

If I said that I was going to give you the correct answer (which is Brora) a few hours ago, would you believe me?

Third time lucky.

And a complete guess all the same.

Which hole?

Seemingly the 1st at Brora :

Well done Ally  ;)

Closest I can get to a before and after , is from Brora's website.

Brian -

Either the 1st green or the 1st fairway at Brora has been moved considerably since that old photo was taken. Do you have any idea when the photo was taken vs. when the current routing of the course came into being?

As the current photo shows, the approach to the 1st green now looks pretty much out to the North Sea, whereas the old photo is pointed much more inland (by an angle of about 90 degrees).

Great stuff, Brian!

With all due modesty, I probably know Brora better than just about anybody on this site (25+ years playing experience), and from the land forms, that looks more like an approach to today's 17th green from the direction of the 1st tee than the 1st green as it is today.  A while back Melvyn Morrow asserted that Brora was originally an Old Tom Morris design which Braid altered a few decades later.  This picture which screams Morris and not Braid seems to support Melvyn's theory.  Any more info you can give use re: the picture, Brian?  Thanks, regardless.
