I know my checkbook is lying around here somewhere....

I'm a little unclear on your proposal, FBD. Are you suggesting the buyer raze the existing course and start fresh? How old is the course and who is the architect of record?

Martin,

Why is it up for sale?  The wrong course in the wrong place?  Poor marketing?  Overkill in a particular part of Scotland?  That seems incredibly modest a sum for such an extensive facility - what would it fetch as farmland?

Do you know who the listing agent is? Savills? Knight & Frank? Strutt & Parker? Bell-Ingram?

George,
I am merely(!) suggesting that we collectively purchase this Course and create GCA nirvana. Simple! Been open about maybe ten years - I have no knowledge of the Archie. I have played it once as I recall. Largely uninspiring, but set in some of that lovely Angus countryside.

Mark,
Absolutely all of the above! It was definitely farmland before this incarnation. Set in the middle of nowhere really, and damn close to the lovely old Alyth and the newish Glenisla, it was probably a bad idea to build it in the first place.

Thinking of buying?

Forget my checkbook, I'm pretty sure I have at least that much in cash around here somewhere. But first tell me what they have into that place and I'll give them no more than half that for it right now. Ask them if they want to continue bleeding or if they want the White Knight to take care of them right now. Every day I have to wait for their answer will cost them 10 grand.

Martin, it is in a terrible location if memory serves me correctly. That is from a man who has already flown over the ocean to get there. I am giving you credit for the quality of the facilities and courses. They did not look very good to me when we stoped and checked it out a few years back. I did not go in the clubhouse there have no comment on it.

Thanks for the listing info. Maybe I will swing by to have a look when I am over in September.

Any idea what the soil under the course is like? Sandy loam that drains well or pasture land that turns into a muddy bog when it rains?

TEP,
I assumed the Paul fortune was sitting under the mattress doing nothing anyway!

Tigger,
the comments above were all taken directly from the Selling Agents website. I accept no responsibility for their veracity! (if US Agents are anything like Scottish ones...)

DT,
the Alyth area has the great fortune to be situated on the Highland/Lowland divide line which means it's abolutely littered with post-glacial till. I would therefore have thought the Course could be 'linksified' with a minimum of fuss (and expenditure!)*
