Great Donald Ross on TV this week

Here's something you might stumble into while searching for the Natalie Gulbis show.

The U.S. Junior started today at Longmeadow outside of Springfield, Mass.  No, that's not where Bart Simpson is from.  Longmeadow has been discussed here a few times before.  It has been ranked as one of Golfweek's Top 100 Classic in past years.  I'm guessing the coverage will include some of the finishing holes.

#15 has a distinctive swale in the green

#16 is a short, unspoiled par 3 over a ravine

#17 is a wild par 4 superimposed atop a rocky landform

#18 is a pretty straightforward finisher uphill to an amphitheater greensite

For those not familiar, Longmeadow is known for having one long par 4 after another.  Granted, kids today are pretty good.  However, the course devours an average golfer challenged by length.

Worth seeing if you have a chance.

No comment on the Gulbis show.

I'm looking forward to it, John. Two young men from my club are playing and I'm hoping both of them make it to the match play. It would be tres cool if they happened to play each other in a late-round match.

Looking back at the profile of Longmeadow posted here a while back I'd love to the play the course one day, although by your reckoning I'd be devoured soon enough.

Postscript. There will also be an excellent look at Royal Aberdeen on television this week. I don't think the TV schedule has been announced but it could be fun to see Norman, Watson and others play on a course not that many of us have seen before.
