Tribune article on caddy programs in Chicago
« on: July 18, 2005, 11:45:53 AM »
If you say the magazine section of the Chicago Tribune this past Sunday, you will know that caddy programs are alive and well in Chicago, especially at my own Olympia Fields (and Beverly).  That's Kevin Labriola, our outstanding caddy master on the cover, with several of his charges.  I stink at posting links, so if anyone else can or tell me how to post links here, that would be great.  Otherwise, it's at chicagotribune.com and search "labriola" or olympia fields.

Very nice article.

I intend to read the article, but can't get past the lede: "The main building at Olympia Fields Country Club was built in 1925 and remains the largest clubhouse at any golf course in the world."

Maybe I need to take off my Editor's Cap, but had I been assigned to edit the story, I'd have said to the writer, Rick Kogan: "How do you know it's the largest?"

Maybe he'd have had a good, convincing answer! But since he's not here (so far as I know) ...

Gentlemen -- What's the largest clubhouse in the world (so far as you know)?

Anyone who has been to Olympia Fields has heard this.

So it must be true, right?

On a tangent.. the lowest course in the world, Furnace Creek, heard about my friend Bill Goldman's project in the Jordan River Valley and asked him to call them if he ever did get the course built, so they could stop advertising it as the lowest in the world. Now that is diligence!
