Breaking News Regarding Tom Fazio . . .
« on: July 11, 2005, 08:42:27 AM »
I came across something very interesting during my commute his morning. I grabbed a copy of Pub Links Golfer Magazine the other day and was flipping through it on the train today.

In an article discussing a few "must plays" in the New Jerey/E. Pennsylvania area I noticed the following as reason #2 that makes Hartefeld National Golf Club a " Must Play" . . .

" . . .It's a Tom Fazio design. There's a reason that developers who can afford to hire anybody, hire Tom Fazio. . . This is the man responsible for greats like the Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass, Kiawah Island's Ocean Course and Harbor Town Golf Links in South Carolina . . .

I'm surprised the article didn't mention Fazio as the designer of Merion, Oakmont, Winged Foot, Inverness, Oak Hill, Augusta National, and Pine Valley.  ;)

Ah, this kind of thing is not that infrequent. It even happens on a place like this where the contributors are supposed to be fairly informed.

It wasn't that long ago two of our contributors including that self-proclaimed "expert researcher" from Ohio tried to claim that PVGC was actually designed by England's Harry Shapland Colt who spent one week there in 1913 never to return. That Ohio researcher even implied the man who did design and build the course just sat around down there every day for five years watching his crews design the course to Colt's plan and watching the grass grow.
