Mr. Woods is entitled to his opinion, but has he thought that:
Maybe the committee will not use every yard available all the time, and that the extra yardage adds flexilbility to the course- it can be made longer in f&f conditions, and shortened in soft and slow conditions, and varied depending on wind conditions;
Maybe adding length was inevitable, and the club has the time and resources to do it now, so why not get it out of the way;
Maybe if f&f conditions are available in the tournament and the course is maxed out, the greens can be slowed down a touch and hole locations chosen to make hitting mid and long irons manageable;
Maybe the committee has questioned and wrestled with these changes and gotten excellent architectural advice and information from shotlink and other sources and they have a prety good idea of what to expect for results from the changes.
My guess is that these guys are good and they'll do just fine regardless of the set up. One hundred and fifty five yards spead over several holes is not going to make a three shot per round difference to these guys. Let's see the results before we pass judgement. If the changes don't work, they can always use the forward tees.
