Congressional CC Gold Course
« on: June 13, 2005, 12:04:58 AM »
The blue course gets most of the attention and rightly so.  Art Hills did wonderful job reworking the
Gold Course. After the first hole it just gets better.  Most memebers I know love it as much as the Blue.  It is not the test that the Blue is but great fun for most of us mortals.

I think the Art Hills does some of his best work updating, reconstructng or renovating oldr courses.  He seems to have a good feel for it.  He also did a fine job at Chevy Chase.

The objective of the Congressional Membership was to improve the Gold to a level as close as possible to the Blue in an effort to relieve some of the demand on the Blue. Of course this is extremely difficult considering the history of the Blue. The Gold Course is hosting area events as a means of establishing its a reputationof its own.

Congo Gold is a very difficult golf course. With the exception of #12 the par threes are particularly difficult due to length and carries over water. Numerous trees were cleared during renovation opening the corridors. The course can hold its own with most area courses. Unfortunately its Big Sister occasionally plays host to the US Open.
