I played on Sunday with three Philly friends, one who recently joined Hidden Creek. It was the first round for them at HC, my second round. They don't care about hairy bunkers or maintenance meld. They just like to play golf on nice courses. The scores ranged from 76 to 96.

It looks like the other guest with a house in Margate will also be joining HC. If I did not spend weekends in Connecticut, I too would join, and the fourth who has no interest in The Shore or being a member of a club at The Shore really liked the course. Next week, a group of golfers is coming in from their sister course Royal Portrush where Ian the Pro at HC grew up. Now that HC is in full operation with the clubhouse, I will only be shocked if its membership is not full next season.

I can't think of too much that I would have done different than Roger Hansen. It probably took him longer than he wanted, but the time spent paid off IMHO.

I think we should round-up all of this mollydockers and exile all of them on Anthrax Island with Hannibal Lector. BUt that's just my opinion.

Wait a second! Not Lynn though. Lynn can stay here on the mainland....

Dr. Lefty Lector Jr.,
In my thoughts, I think any golf course that creates controversy both good and bad as being a good, if not GREAT one. Hidden Creek I would say welcomes that ideaology through and through. I can hardly wait to get back there. Its the type of course I could play from morning till night and then repeat it again and again day after day--that's how much I liked it. It's not a bit pretentious in anyway (as a club) and I think Roger, Jennifer, Bill, Ben & The Boys, as well as Ian and his staff have created not only a homey, comfrotable atmosphere there, but one that should be emulated throughout the country if not the world. I know you know this!

Three cheers for Hidden Creek!

Horray!
Horray!
Horray!

And if indeed we did ban all mollydockers to Anthrax Island, I can only hope for all of you Mollydocker's sake that a course and club like Hidden Creek is the local golf. For that reason alone, I might just become a mollydocker myself! ;)

PS. Why does a course in Atlantic City have to be compared to a course in Westchester in terms of Greatness? Why does it have to be compared to Pine Valley? (even though that's  compliment in some way--I think)  Why does Hidden Creek have to be compared to any Heathland courses in the GB for that matter? Why can't it just stand its own as a New Jersey/Pine Barrens course near Atlantic City?

Playing golf today can be a very frustrating experience because most of the great courses are inaccesible.  HC is being recognized as an outstanding club which one can join immediately and for a fair price.  I don't see many courses being built today which can compare in quality and price.  At least not in the the northeast or middle Atlantic.  I know in DC most clubs begin at $75,000 for a non-refundable initiation fee, and the wait to get in can be 10 years or more.  I only wish that they would build an HC type course in my area.

Redanman,
You know as well as I do that if you and I were out there day after day, we both be loving that course through and through. I couldn't think of a better Redanman/Tommy get-together course. Bring Renee with you! :)

That's what's so good about it. EVERYONE CAN PLAY IT AND HAVE A GREAT TIME! :)

Not "Cream Cheese" though. (Mayday Malone)

Steve Lapper- great point

Tommy
Fine if you want to further malign lefties.

Now answer the freekin question without diverting the point to lefty evil.

Why the hell did you say

"Neil, Why post pictures of Hidden Creek? It's not supposed to be a very good golf course!

Hidden Creek--much maligned-but as fun of a golf course as you'll see!"

Please find somewhere on this board where someone said something remotely like its not a very good golf course.

Please show us where it is being maligned?

This is poppycock nonsense and you only rehash this and stir the pot such that it is YOUR WRITING that is maligning and trying to shed a less then perfect light on the course and not those ghosts you are implicating.

Answer the question!

I certainly understand Sweeney's guys wanting to join HC-it is " a very nice member's course".

  Let's evaluate again.

First time I went there I got a hat. It faded(I noticed my caddie on second trip had same faded hat).

Second time I did not get a hat, but have used my guest tag for my new carry bag. Tommy, What more do you want?

Cream Cheese,
And I hear that Fox Chase is also....... ;)

Dr. Lefty Lector,
If I could get Mr. R Morrissett to post on this thread and tell the cyber world of all of the dreck he took from a certain Geneticist on the subject of Hidden Creek and its greatness, well what further proof would I need! :)

Since the grand inquisitor Mucci started this I'm on a crusade to defend lefties.

James- Did it ever occur to you that the reflection in the mirror that you describe as awkward and ugly just might really be YOU!  ;D

Tommy,

I would guess that if Roger Hansen used "The Carthage Club" as a name rather than HC, Ran would be okay with that.  :D

Dr. Lector,
Like you, I'm presently not afforded the time to go looking for old threads--maybe Joel Stewart could help out?  ;)

BUT.......

I do remember certain conversations (cell phone calls) from you and a certain "Tuco" character somewhat maligning the course on the drove home one day. Should we go further? (I can't, in fact this is my last post on this subject for the day. I'm turning GCA off!)

Yes Tommy lets go further if you wish but we will then tread down the "RATING GAME".  Is that what you wish?

Tuco and I both had very nice things to say about HC on what was my initial visit even to the point of saying the course belonged on the GW Top 100 modern list. We also I believe thought that Ron Whitten's article equating if you will Hidden Creek and Friars Head was quite unfair to Friars Head.

Is that maligning the course?

What we disagreed with was Yoda Ran on was his placing HC within Golf's Top 100 courses in the country that include all classic as well as modern courses.

Shall we go on?

PS- since you can't state case and verse about what was said about HC why did you post those negative remarks people supposedly wrote?

OK Tommy but you didn't answer the question because you can't answer honestly.

Those kneejerk reactions by several on GCA when anything is said that remotely can be construed as placing HC anywhere but the rarified atmosphere of the Pine Valley's and Friars Heads of the world is attacked is the antithesis of the frank discussion of golf course architecture that Ran wants this board to follow. They only place a spotlight where I'm sure they would prefer it not to shine.

Please do not involve Tuco in this as he is still trying to solve the mysteries of his lost evil Tuco ball from last weekend.

My final word to you on this subject.-- I have Pat Mucci's comments in writing regarding his feelings about Hidden Creek after his initial visit.

With Pat's permission only I will have them posted.  You would find it very interesting.
