That's interesting.

North Jersey is an extremely rocky site.
Hollywood is just the opposite,  hence it would appear that it was a style preference first, and a construction convenience, second.

Looking at the legend I just got into thinking about his differentiation between "sand pits" and "humps and hollows with sand bunkers".  This calls to question the issue of differences in the bunkers and that they were intended to be different.

Steve,

It's definately a style choice because of how consistantly the mounding appears around the green sites. Fortunately they are close enough to the green to save most of them. The ones further out usually disappeared for "maintenance" reasons.

I have quite a few original pictures that show examples of the mounding. I've posted most before, but could send a few through to you.
