Aerial of the Day #6 - Updated
« on: May 20, 2005, 09:16:49 AM »
Have had this one put together for some time now (notice it's
the old GlobeXplorer).

Difficult to give clues on the name, other than the river just
to the west that flows through this city shares the same
name (as the club), and I'm assuming it's a Native American name.

This club bearly has a history.                                  [sic]

All this time, I thought it was "cy" (as in Young or Sperling),
then rhyming with Apollo Anton's surname.  But that was all just a guess.    :-\

Scott,

I didn't want to make it TOO obvious, so I went with the modfied phonics approach!   ;D

Actually, I've heard it pronounced "see".

They had a championship here, many years ago, correct?

Looks kind of narrow--I'd probably want to cut the ball here to keep it in play.  Probably a nice place to grow up playing the game at.

This doesn't look like the original bunkering--I'd be interested in the look of the course from when "Junior" won a championship here.

Happy Friday, everybody

Another big name Ross course made worse by others?

MacWood prowls fairways just a few miles from here.  Or is it The fairways?   ::)

Fairly recent major pro franchise recipient town.  Er, they used to play that sport here.

This course renovated/restored all of their bunkering over the past fall/winter. I was there yesterday (didn't play), but couldn't determine exactly what they did based upon my 20 second look. My first impression was that the sand was VERY bright.

Local pronunciation is a combination of a portion of an annual award to the top MLB pitchers, combined with a portion of the first name of one of Casey Martin's college teammates that plays on Tour (the one with the DUI arrest).  ;)

Doug/Scott, I also understand that the tee on #11 has been moved a bit to make the hole more of a dogleg?  Or was it to straighten it out a little more?  I forget which it was.

Who did the work here?  When they restored their bunkers, did they choose a baseline or a date, say, 1926?

I don't know a lot about this club.  Nice hint, Steve!

The longtime head pro here told me "Every time people talk about how long today's pros are and how the older ones couldn't keep up, I tell them about how Jack used to play 7 by hitting his drive into the front bunker and trying to get up and down for birdie."  Friends, that's a poke.

Obviously, everything points to previously shown Scioto in
Columbus, OH, Jack Nicklaus' boyhood course, home of the
1926 U.S. Open and 1950 PGA.  I believe Dick Wilson made
the changes to the course that supposedly detracted from
the original.
