Alameda Point -- SF Bay
« on: May 16, 2005, 02:57:49 AM »
Looks like there could potentially be a Kyle Phillips design on the SF Bay:

Have a look through the slide show - especially the proposed routing map:

Dont know at what stage the project is, but it sure looks interesting....

That's going to be REALLY cool if and when it happens... I can look out the window of my office and see it off in the distance - or the land where it's supposed to be anyway.  I'm looking from Oakland... man the views of SF from this course are going to be incredible.

It just sure as heck looks nothing like a golf course right now -at least not from my vantage point pretty far away.  Here's hoping it gets done and quick... it is going to be REALLY cool from the looks of things.

Although green fees are not mentioned, there are 5 letters in the prospectus that shoot-down an opportunity for affordable golf (at least for non-Alameda residents) ...

Oh crap - you're right.  This isn't gonna be low-fee like Monarch Bay or Metropolitan GL... oh well.  I guess I can wait then.

Is it a Muni owned by the city of Alameda  ?
The things a man has heard and seen are threads of life, and if he pulls them carefully from the confused distaff of memory, any who will can weave them into whatever garments of belief please them best.

I sure think it is - that web site is city of Alameda.

Of course around here, being a muni does NOT necessarily mean low green fees.  Oh, most do work that way... but then there's Harding - city of SF muni - $90 for non-SF residents.  I think what Mr. Benham was alluding to was that we can expect a similar pricing scheme at this Alameda course.

I've talked to Kyle Phillips a number of times about this course and its tied up in legal mumbo jumbo as well as enviromental issues with the Navy.  My guess is that its 5 years away from being constructed.

Thanks, Joel - I had heard something to that effect as well... and seeing where it is, that the Navy is involved, cleanup of the site is needed... well one would have to be happy IF this gets done before we are septugenarians.

Still is is fun to dream... and the site does look cool from my 23rd floor perch here....

All I can say is regardless of how long it takes I just hope they are able to make this one happen. With Kyle Phillips designing it you know it will be very good.

Metropolitan and Monarch are nice courses, but this would be in another league just looking at that routing map.

I'm hoping and waiting...

As Joel noted, this is the former site of Alameda NAS.

I ask, why bother with the clean-up?  The existing "fairways" are firm and fast and would encourage low ball flight with the prevailing wind ... ;)
