Tommy
It's great hear of your enthusiasm for the "Golf Architecture" magazine.
Once again editors Neil Crafter and Paul Mogford deserve the credit for an excellent job in producing a journal which many claim to be the best of its type in the world.
I'm sure Neil wont mind me pointing out that the magazine is actually produced by Paul and himself on behalf of the Society of Australian Golf Course Architects (SAGCA). "Golf Architecture" is the official journal of the SAGCA which, at at 25 or so members, is a small but quietly active group of GA's.
As the voice of the SAGCA , "Golf Architecture" has deliberately low advertising content which means it barely meets production costs. With a print run of 4000 and a free copy distributed to the 1600 or so courses in Australia and 800 Australian Superintendents, the remainder are availble on either on sale at a few pro shops or on a subscription basis.
Neil tells me subscriptions are steadily increasing including those from GCA regulars. Back issues have also proved popular with those wanting to add to their GA library.
Last week the SAGCA had it’s meeting at Barnbougle Dunes, which as you have shown is on the front cover of the Issue No 8. Neil Crafter had copies of GA hot off the press which hushed the meeting for a quite while as we all thumbed through the pages. Mike Clayton (SAGCA member) was there and was able to give a first hand account of the Barbougle story and his collaboration with Tom Doak on this magnificant project.
On Friday morning SAGCA members played the course for the “Crockford Salver” a perpetual trophy named after the legendary superintendent of Royal Melbourne, Claude Crockford. Unfortunatley I had to head to Melbourne for work but perhaps Mike Clayton tell us about his 3 iron to 4 feet from the pin on the 18th to add a chunk of silver to his homeward bound luggage.
