It's a pity this magazine does not get to a wider audience - it's by far the best maazine around. No tips on how to cure a slice,no ads for the next ball that goes 25 yards further and beautifully presented.
If more golfers read it they might figure out there is such a thing as golf architecture.

Boys

Is this mag really worth ~7 quid a go?  I have not read or seen a copy as of yet, but the price is certainly shocking.

Mike, I couldn't agree more.

The articles, the content, the images, everything to the paper it's printed on.  I wouldn't be posting this if I didn't think it was of merit. Today I was thinking of how about 50 years from now, a boxed set of all of the issues is really going to be worth something.

Sean, If your questioning the amount vs. the content, then you should just stick with Golf Digest, or better yet, one of the free regional magazines from your area. ;D

Sean,

It's worth whatever it costs.

Even if, in the past, it has had the occasional Mike Wolveridge article.  ???

Ahh, magazines like "Phildelphia Golf Magazine" where half the content is about North Carolina...

Though, in all fairness, PGM isn't that bad at all.

I believe I ordered all issues online yesterday, but have recieved no conformation. I agree a well kept set would be nice to have down the road. How does one keep informed about new issues? A proper box (holder) would be nice to keep them in. Thank you.

To add to the above, this publication is a good as it gets. Yes it is pricey. But if you hang out around here, you need to have this. Pay up. You won't regret it.

I can't recall ever getting a confirmation when I ordered before, but I did receive them rather promptly. Nice to see you're still out there, Brad. :)

I can't stress enough how great these magazines are. They are TOO INEXPENSIVE relative to their actual worth. And I'm not just saying that to egg on JakaB. It took me awhile to take the plunge and buy a few, and now I regret not getting them sooner. Excellent writing, terrific photography, interesting subjects, and all printed on high quality paper. A steal at almost any price.

(Ignore the fact that I'd buy anything with Barnbougle in it. :))

Thanks, Noel.

One of the reasons I initially hesitated to purchase the magazine is that I knew a trip to Australia was likely far off in the future for me. But this publication is so much more than just a magazine about Australian golf courses.

Here is a look at the table of contents for Vol. 7:

- Australian Golf Union
- The Classic Course Ball
- A Golf Architecture Bookshelf
- Classic Holes: Narooma #3
- Sutton Bay profile
- Walter Travis article
- Down Memory Lane (an article on St Andrews)
- GA Review: Bel Air
- GA Book Review: Hurdzan Fry
- The Rise and Fall of Criticism
- Cross Cultural Design
- GA Feature Essay: Max Behr
- Woodlands Golf Club
- GA Book Review: Emerald Gems
- Bernhard von Limburger
- Mackenzie, Russell and Morcom
- Bunkered!
- Dan Soutar, Australian GCA
- GA Review: St Enodoc

In retrospect, I would have purchased the magazine for the review of St Enodoc alone. This inspiring review paints a brilliant picture in the readers mind without once mentioning the yardage of the course or what Joe Pro would be hitting into any hole! This review sets a standard all of our posts should aspire to reach.

You'll even see some familiar faces in the bylines and realize that some people on here are even more committed to architecture than many realize.

Noel -

I also forgot to add that you and Paul Turner will be missed at Hidden Creek, but I take comfort in the fact that I know there will be some terrific threads upon your return. :)

It's great hear of your  enthusiasm for the "Golf Architecture" magazine.  :) Once again  editors Neil Crafter and Paul Mogford deserve the credit for an excellent job in producing a journal which many claim to be the best of its type in the world.

I'm sure Neil wont mind me pointing out that the magazine is actually produced by Paul and himself  on behalf of the Society of Australian Golf Course Architects (SAGCA). "Golf Architecture" is the official journal of the SAGCA which, at at 25 or so members, is a small but quietly active group of GA's.

As the voice of the  SAGCA , "Golf Architecture" has deliberately low advertising content  which means it  barely meets production costs.  With a print run of  4000 and a free copy distributed to the 1600 or so  courses in Australia and 800 Australian Superintendents, the remainder are availble on either on sale at a few pro shops or on a subscription basis.

Neil tells me subscriptions are steadily increasing including those from GCA regulars. Back issues have also proved popular with those wanting to add to their GA library.

Last week the SAGCA had it’s meeting at Barnbougle Dunes, which as you have shown is on the front cover of the Issue No 8.  Neil Crafter had copies of GA hot off the press which hushed the meeting for a quite while as we all thumbed through the pages.  Mike Clayton (SAGCA member) was there and was able to give a first hand account of the Barbougle story and his collaboration with Tom Doak on this magnificant project.

On Friday morning SAGCA members played the course for the “Crockford Salver” a perpetual trophy named after the legendary superintendent of Royal Melbourne,  Claude Crockford. Unfortunatley I had to head to Melbourne for work but perhaps Mike Clayton tell us about his 3 iron to 4 feet from the pin on the 18th to add a chunk of silver to his homeward bound luggage.

Harley,
How has the course you did over in China that is chronicled in Vol 2 (Golden ?)been coming along over the years? It sounds like it was a great experience for you at that point in your career.
