Golf near Annapolis, MD - suggestions?
« on: April 14, 2005, 01:06:16 PM »
I am going to be near Annapolis, Saturday, May 14th (thus ends my bid for making the Hidden Creek outing :'(). There must be golf nearby. I have most of the morning and all of the afternoon free.

Any suggestions as to what I should pursue?

South River or Old South. Old South is private so I am not sure if you have any connections. I would have my pro call.

Although private, and not sure how tough it is to get on, the Naval Academy Golf Course is defintily a must play.  Great old Flynn course.

All of the above are good choices. You may also want to add Renditions to your list. The course offers interesting "renditions" of holes from courses that have hosted "Major" Championships + the Tournament Players Championship.

Rob -

How is the condition at Renditions? When I played it it was horrible. I thought the 17th @TPC Sawgrass was a joke. Maybe some of the other holes are better now that it has had a season or two to grow.

Queenstown Harbor is a good choice but less than an hour away are Beechtree and Bulle Rock, both of which are far more interesting.

But for the true gca'er, spend your time at Annapolis GC ;) - a 9-hole Charles Banks layout that is legendary for its architecture and its terrible conditioning.

If you play Queenstown Harbor - play the River course...I enjoyed it - could do worse, could do better.
