The Best Course not profiled on GCA
« on: May 10, 2005, 10:35:37 AM »

I havent seen any of these but some nominees would be...
Muirfield
Ballybunion
Merion

Remember, 'my home course' profiles count too, so I dont want to hear any Dornoch votes. ;)

Not necessarily the best, but a few that I'd really like to see profiled:

Burning Tree
Palmetto Golf Club
Bel-Air Country Club
Sara Bay Country Club
Old Sandwich
Boston Golf Club
Nanea Golf Club
Shelter Harbor Golf Club
Barnbougle Dunes

As well, not necessarily the best, but pretty good!  Two courses in the San Diego area that don't seem to get much 'ink' here......La Jolla CC and San Diego CC.  La Jolla is an old Billy Bell course perched on the slopes above the sea, very private, dissected by several barrancas, with an abundance of wonderful golf holes, and a great walk to boot.
Gene Littler got his start there, as did Craig Stadler.

San Diego CC is probably even better, just a classic old course, with bumpy fairways, wonderful golf holes, and alot of history.....Billy Casper got his start there, and Mickey Wright won the Women's U.S. Open there in 1964.

Crystal weather here in Bandon today, after a very wet spring storm to start the week.

One can sense the anticipation here for the opening of Bandon Trails.

There's a bunch of famous courses not profiled here for whatever reason:

SFGC
Merion
Olympic
Baltusrol
Colonial
The Creek
Southern Hills
Five Farms
Medinah
East Lake
Shadow Creek
Spyglass Hill

and the "Ross greats butchered by others"  ;D :

Oakland Hills
Oak Hill
Inverness

Myopia Hunt Club's course profile was de-linked after the club asked such.

Medalist's course profile was de-linked I'm guessing due to the changes for the worse Norman did to the course.

Obviously, the courses listed on The Next Fifty page (including the above-mentioned Barnbougle) don't have course profiles because neither John nor Ran has seen them yet.

Southern Hills and Barnbougle Dunes have profiles in the In My Opinion section.
