Which "Golden Age" architects would be getting work today?

America seems to embrace the repeditive nature of Fazio and Jones courses, so would they also embrace Raynor?

GD raters seem to be concerned about how pretty a course or site is, so would they embrace Ross?

Wild greens, interest routing and non-symmetric bunkers seems to have caught on with C&C and Doak (at least in some areas), so would McK be in line for the next Bandon course?

Which Golden Age architect would be getting the short-stick today as new competition exists?

If the architecture of Alister MacKenzie did not exist in this world and somehow he appeared now for the first time and did what he once did and it did not get the complete attention of the world of golf today I'd be shocked and a little more than a bit depressed.

The differing styles of architecture is one thing but the ability and inclination of the golfing public at any point in time to appreciate and respect it probably does change and perhaps dramatically. That's probably not the end of the world but it can be somewhat dangerous too----I think enough time as gone by in the evolution of golf architecture to prove that!

I'd guess the flashier guys (MacK, Thomas) would get more work than the low key guys (Ross, Colt/Alison). Flynn and the MacD/Raynor/Banks axis might fit somewhere in the middle.

They'd get limited  work because their work(that they would have to compete for with the multiple talented architects around today)would lack the benefits of 70+ years of site  maturity and tradition.
--besides that they'd be alive,so how good could they be?

Wayne Morrison just called me to say that he believes if William Flynn was practicing today his style and architecture would be on par with and virtually indistinguishable from the great Tom Fazio! And he also added that he thinks if Raynor was practicing today he thinks his slightly less natural looking architecture would be on par and virtually indistinguishable from the great Rees Jones. I'm just wondering which Golden Age architect would be on par with and virtually indistinguishable from the great Ted Robinson. TommyN may be able to speak to that---as he's probably the world's greatest fan of and expert on the great Ted Robinson.

CB McDonald and Travis would probably be on the PGA tour making boat loads of money wearing nikes and oakleys. Maybe the occassional "consulting tour player architect" role between Skins games and corporate outings.

I think most of the "old guys" would easily be finding gainful employment..why..becasuse there are enough true lovers of traditional golf course to support their styles.
The Philly guys in particular would have a flourishing business, probably associated in some form with the likes of Doak or Hanse..Mankenzie would be souring the globe with tom Doak finding the sites that bedazzle everybody...I see Doak and Mackenzie on the pampas of Argentina of across  on the pacific coast scouting the "links" land of Chile for the next Banbougle Dunes.

On this topic a little more, we spend most of our positive comments on this site discussing the old style look of architects Doak, C&C, Hanse etc..so it only makes sense to me that the gentlemen that these current designers are emulating would themselves flourish.
