Alex,

Riviera started with two par 5's.

Baltusrol Lower starts with one and finishes with two.

Baltusrol Upper starts with one.

Boca Rio and Preakness Hills start with one on both nines.
Adios starts with one.

Jef Brauer's Wilderness at Fortune Bay opens with a split fairway 649 yd par 5. Better warm up!

Mike Benham

do people play Olympic Lake from an alternate nearby tee at times (on some courses the 10th if adjacent is used).  If so, they would play 3 par 5's in a row in the middle of the round.  That would be quirky.

9th tee is closest to the clubhouse...but there wouldn't be 3 par 5's in a row...#18 is a par 4.

I don't know if MacKenzie ever wrote or spoke about his ideal openers but he did a few par 5 firsts on this side of the pond too. Moortown and Shipley are examples.

Interlachen starts witha 530 yard dogleg left par 5.  Number 3 handicap hole that gets your attention right away.  Not a terribly difficult hole, but the green is guarded on the right by a large tree fronting a pond and ob is reachable with a pull.  Almost no one goes for it in two.

Rye Golf Club in England has a par-5 first hole and not another in the round [par is 68], and it's about as good a course as you could find.

Baltusrol Lower, as set up for the US Open, doesn't have any par five until the 17th and 18th.

the above mentioned Moortown actually opens with TWO par fives. i am not a fan of this but it can help get your round off to a flyer!

Re Olympic Fields, and 3 holes in a row as par 5's - my mistake, I must have misread #16 as #18.  How embarassment. ::)

Kooyonga in Adelaide has hosted at least two Australian Opens and several SA Opens/Jacobs creek (host site till this year).  The first is a 550 yard par 5, followed by a 500 yard par 5 with the second threaded through a narrow gulch, sandhills to left and right.  The course also includes consecutive par 3's on 14 (155 yards) and 15 (220 yards).
Bob; its impossible to explain some of the clutter that gets recalled from the attic between my ears. .  (SL Solow)
