Robert Hunter-Designer of Cypress Point G.C.
« on: January 15, 2003, 10:57:04 AM »
Gentlemen.

I need help. In today's Monterey Herald, there is an article on the sale of a house on the 13th at Pebble Beach for a record price of $29.5 million. The article written by a Sylvia Moore goes on to say that "Robert Hunter, designer of the Cypress Point G.C., commissoned Wallace Neff to design the house."

Would any of you with some spare time, e-mail Ms. Moore and tell her about the good doctor? Her address is sdmoore@montereyherald.com

If there is a paper in the country with more disinformation in it than ours, I sure would like to hear about it.

Bob,

I sent Sylvia a short note clarifying the issue and suggested she pick up a copy of Geoff's book on the subject.

Great work!  With the cat out of the bag I'm sure the price of the house will plummet and I'll be able to pick up that little West Coast bolthole I've been trying to find for only 28 mil or so.

Thanks.

If that is the house I am thinking of, it is a castle not a house.  From my recollections it spanned the entire length of hole (or close to it).  Not too many bargains on land abutting Pebble these days!

Rich:

There seems to be almost no end to the things I have to do for you. Allow me to negotiate the purchase of that house for you, I think we can do even better than the 28 mil you're willing to spend. I think 27 mil is doable with about a 500K fee for me--strictly for whiskey money, mind you--and you can drink some too.

I believe property values will increase more for all concerned if we subscribe to the notice that MacKenzie, Hunter, and even Raynor, all designed CPC. Chances are good that each sugegsted the design of a home. Heck, let's go so far as to say Geoff also designed CPC and that he may have once had a cold beverage in a home at CPC.

Wow... the Monterey Herald isn't alone in this mis-attribution... I was perusing the web site of a new course out here that I've been following, and we get more of this...
