Any information on how Mike Strantz is doing battling cancer?

I recently had to opportunity to play his redo of Monterrey Peninsula and wanted to let him know what a fine job he did there.
Live Jupiter, Fl, was  4 handicap, played top 100 US, top 75 World. Great memories, no longer play, 4 back surgeries. I don't miss a lot of things about golf, life is simpler with out it. I miss my 60 degree wedge shots, don't miss nasty weather, icing, back spasms. Last course I played was Augusta

Last I heard he is not doing so well and declining. :-\ He did a marvelous job at MPCC. Apparently he wasn't doing well by the time he got to the 18th hole and it was finished by his associate. The most interesting thing to me about the course is it has 5 par 3's and 5 par 5's and they are all solid holes. The setting doesn't hurt either. 8)

That is really bad news.  I love Strantz's work.  A true artist.

I hope one day he gets the props he rightfully deserves.

We visited Bull's Bay G.C. (where I believe Strantz lives) a few days ago, a Strantz course in Charlestown, and one of the central characters of the club mentioned just recently Mike Strantz had also developed pneumonia.

Several of the guys shaping for me had been shaping for Mike for the last several years.  They speak to his wife weekly.  Mike went in the hospital last week with some complications.  Thoughts and prayers with him and wish him the best.

Hey -- I wrote Heidi, Mike's wife, a note a few weeks back and she said he was doing well. That said, Mr. Young is probably more up to speed.

It is an insidious disease.

Robert,
Jeff Jones, who worked with him was home in Charleston last week and informed me of that.  I have not spoken to his wife.  She obviously would be more up to date than myself.

If someone knows his address, maybe we could organise a card with all the names from this international group who want to be part of it with our get well wishes?

Im sure he'd appreciate and get a boost from knowing there is a golf architecture society talking and thinking of him at this time so positively and constructively about the man and his work!

Id sure like to be part of it as I have played two of his golf courses and has developed into one of the top guys I admire the work of..

I don't know his exact address, but I do know he lives on 25 acres of land at Bulls Bay Golf Club in Mount Pleasant, SC.  The address might be 1222 Copper Penny Court, Mount Pleasant, SC  29466 (I looked it up on the internet).

I was there earlier this week and Col. Larry McKay, who was part of the organizing committee at the club, did indicate that he was not doing well.

Sorry, Tom.  I didn't see your post till just now.

Mike,

Yes, I was thinking along the lines of a simple card with

"From all at Golf Club Atlas.com" and then listing say the name of each person - say on this thread or related threads that want to be part of it - and where they come in the world all written by one person, I dont mind offering my services..

It would be a nice touch from a group of people who at the end of the day love architecture - especially what he is doing for it!

I would like to be included if something along these lines can be arranged; he is a great artist.

Mike,
Thanks so much for the pleasure you have provided me at your golf courses.  From Caledonia and True Blue to Tobacco Rd. and Tot Hill Farm, I've loved them all and smiled my way around as I admired your artistry.  You have my heartfelt wishes and prayers for a full and speedy recovery.

In the mid-90s, when I was just starting to play golf and long before I had started reading about golf architecture, I went to Myrtle Beach on a golf trip/bachelor party.  Among the several courses we played was Caledonia, and I loved it.   I even liked number 9 (probably because I birdied it-a rarity in my game). Though I knew little about golf and gca, I knew the course was something special (and it stood in stark contrast to the other courses we played that trip).  It became my favorite course, and as a result, I started studying and reading about gca and golf course architects.

I too would like to be included on any card.  Thanks.

Mike...Loved your work at Tobacco Road and am very much looking forward to seeing what you've done at MPCC Shores (having played there about six years ago) in a couple of weeks. Get well soon, our thoughts are with you.

Please include me as well.  I haven't played any of his courses, but I was the recipient of the package put together for MPCC members detailing Mike's intentions for the reconstruction of the Shore Course.  If the course resembles his drawings to a great extent, it must be great.  Hopefully I'll have the opportunity to experience it in three weeks.

Lou - I got a copy of that package as well... and the answer is it mostly does and it doesn'ta little and in the end it's great no matter if it does or doesn't.

You'll see... bring the thing with you and compare.  It's pretty fun.

Please add my name as well. Mike doesn't know it, but he introduced me to this site. I really liked TR, returned home, did an internet search on Mike and the feature interview popped up.

Adding per James' request:
