'The Golfer' Magazine
« on: March 01, 2005, 12:21:48 PM »
Anybody heard of this and have any thoughts about the mag? Looks alot like Links -- maybe a bit more of a lifestyle mag; wine, food, fashion as well as golf. Big emphasis on architecture from what I can see.

There is a good interview with Doak posted on their website that looks pretty recent but doesn't have a date.

There are also profiles of Barnbougle, Cape Kidnappers and Sutton's Bay on the site.

Its a superb magazine. Very high quality pictures, paper etc.

I believe they have an annual issue devoted to Architecture.

There also is some lifestyle in it as well.

I think the issues come out roughly quarterly.

I highly recommend

Buck,

Didn't you notice who compiled the list of the great architectural crimes of the 20th century?

Some guy called Ran Morrissett  ::)

The only think I don't like about Ran's 10 worst crimes is that he only lists 9. ;)

Buck,

There is generally a written portion of the magazine that is devoted to golf course architecture, however, if you are an avid golf book collecter, you'll be dissappointed because they are quite often excerpts taken from published works. The pictorals are fantastic.

Tyler-
Sounds right up my alley -- I'm more of a short attention span magazine guy. I have several GCA books I've been meaning to read but just don't start. The photos on the website were outstanding -- I may have to put Barnbougle on my desktop.

Jeff-
I did say byline not headline.

Is the photo at the top of Ran's list Yale's Biarritz?

"There also is some lifestyle in it as well."

Really?

Heh, maybe I should submit an articke to that mag that combines golf architectue and lifestyle!

I'll call the article;

"FLASKS and ARCHITECTURE"

TEPaul,

You will want my assistance on that article, I assure you. Why, you can ask Mr. Naccarato if you need a second opinion on my credentials. Perhaps, if you ask nicely, I can send you a nice document I have written which gives a refreshing view of modern golf course architecture. It may not have been flask induced, but you will be wondering how it could not have been!

Joe:

I don't believe I'll be asking Mr Thomas Naccarto about his opinions on the contents of flasks and architecture again. Unfortunately I already have it! Fate is a most curious thing sometimes and I do believe in it.
