The Bay Club at Mattapoisett

Anyone get a chance to see this new course yet? It's a new south shore Boston club designed by Booth & Faxon. Any other alternatives for clubs in that area?

Old Sandwich and Boston Golf Club would be great, but are not options.

kittansett is in marion, next town over.  i have always liked the country club of new bedford also.

I have played the bay club twice- In my opinion, the par 4's are repetitive but the 3's and 5's are pretty good (3 of the 4 par 3's are loooong) The course could use some bunkering to shape the fairways- On many tee boxes, it looks like a driving range. The pro, Jack Bohman, came over from Black Rock, and is one of the game's finest...  The course has grown in quickly  so it really doesnt feel like a brand new venue- nice practice facility and my guess is that since Wally Uhlein from Titleist is a charter member- the course will likely get the enhancements that would give more shot value etc..
Also, it appears that they have done a good job of siting the housing away from the course, with tree lines etc..

After a quick look at their web site I must admit I was underwhelmed. No mention of the architect either, or did Brad Faxon design the course?.

Bay Club is Brad Faxon/Brad Booth design, their first. Some solid holes. The par 3s stand out. Closing three holes are tough.

A must play is the 9-hole Marion Golf Course, the first design of George Thomas, about 4 minutes from Bay Club. It is on Point Road, the same road at Kittansett.

I should add I really, really like Marion. It is a very quirky place, and has some cool features as well as some weird ones. And I'm not just saying that to "punch up" my post, even though that is what people in my line of work do, or so I've read here.

John - Mattapoisett isn't on the South Shore, where BGC and, to a lesser extent, OS are located. As others have mentioned, it is on Buzzards Bay, a full 1hr+ from the heart of the South Shore (e.g. Hingham). Its actually a lot closer to Providence than Boston (or the south shore). Its not really in the "area."

But if you are looking for clubs in that area, Black Rock (which is next door to BGC) might be an option.

Thanks for the details. My brother-in-law (who lurks here occasionally) is moving to the 495 south belt and looking for a club and likes what he's heard. He'll get a first hand visit (albeit w/ no golf) this weekend and wanted to know what the thinking was.
