Irish Seniors Amateur Open Championship--Royal County Down
« on: February 25, 2005, 04:59:36 AM »
OK

If there were ever an argument for keeping your health up and handicap down after age 55 this is it!

A practice round and two medal rounds over RCD at the end of May for..............Imagine Dr. Evil making a ransom demand..........

15 EUROS!  (that's ~$20 in real money........)

Not sure if I'll be able to make it due to timing and currently iffy HCP (think you'll need to be 5 or less to get in), but I would highly recommend this event for any super senior studs out there who can golf their balls and enjoy Ireland.

THIS IS A PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT FROM RICH GOODALE.

I think it's really cool that they have these discounts for you seniors.  You know you have to watch those pension funds.

Good luck at RCD, grandpa!

There are lots of Open Competitions in the UK when you can play super courses under competitive conditions for very reasonable sums.  They're not all as high-powered as RCD and most are handicap competitions.  Just look on club websites about this time of year and you'll find any number.  But look quickly - they get booked up very fast.

I might be interested  in making that trip.  Sounds intriguing.
Do you have any info on how one would go about getting an entry?
Thanks for bringing this to our attention.

I'm loath to tell you, since if you enter, my chances of getting in (and/or winning!) become slimmer, but......

....try www.gui.ie

More serioulsy, hope we can both get there and finally meet up.

Be not dismayed!
It is very difficult to win anything with the yips.....and yikes, I think I have them.
I am presently looking for a cure...any cure!   LOL
I guess that comes with getting old.
Thanks for the info!

JWL -- I would guess that Dr. Naccarato's can't-fail yips cure will be offered to you within the hour, or certainly by the end of the day. If not, I'll dig it out of my archived e-mails and send it along.

To be honest, I haven't tried it yet. I'm keeping it in a safe place, like a fire extinguisher in a glass cabinet, to be used only in the case of the most dire emergencies. I've already gone left-hand low and I refuse to use a long putter, so I don't want to admit I've got full-blown yips yet -- though I certainly teetered for a while last summer.

In the meantime, I continue to try to think of myself as a normal golfer with ocassional putting woes that can be kept in check by not taking the game too seriously. And this year I'm going to loosen up on my grip.

Rich,

Not quite eligible yet, but is there a qualifier to get into the tournament proper?

My math is a bit different than yours.  $2,000 for flight and travel expenses, $20 entry fees, and $80 for beer just to make the math work easily, that's $2100, or $700 per round.  Most likely worth every penny, but not very blue-collar affordable for us Yanks.

I wish it were being played this weekend. Round trip to London from the Twin Cities is just $209 right now. Oh, wait -- I'm not 55 yet. Bad news, good news...

Rick -

I could probably forge some documents for you.... :)

To anyone who enters -

Please report how the course plays - let us all revel in your fun.

Good luck.

No qualifier, Lou.

George, I need a game, not any stinking badges!

I have every confidence you can get your handicap down to the requisite amount - I was joking about forging a birth certificate for young Rick.

Why is RCD charging in Euros?  Shouldn't Pounds prevail?

It's a Golf Union of Ireland (GUI) event.  In golf, like rugby, Ireland is united, and the biggest part (Eire) gets to set the currency!
