Kevin's description of Phil's birdie on 13 at PH is right on. I was standing directly behind Phil as he lined up, and there was a "W" formation of trees about 10 yards in front of his ball. The space between the edges and the 2 trees in the center was about 4 yards on either side.
From right behind him, you could NOT tell which slot through the trees he was going to take. He was aimed directly at the middle! I really thought there was good chance the shot would richochet. It was crazy.
And then, after very little deliberation, he lined up, took 9 iron, hit a low cut through the right side of the tree complex. The ball cut about 10 yds in the air, and landed on the fringe, just over the fronting bunker.
FREAKIN ELECTRIC! I tell you! I still get goosebumps. Best shot I've ever seen live in competition, for sure.
PS. On PH number 12, he hit driver, clearing the trees around the corner - FARTHER than anyone I've ever seen, BY A LOT! Farther than Daly - by a lot. 170 yds in, from the fairway on the right side - 60 yds in front of the farthest bunker on the right corner.. 8 iron in. Insane, really.
It matters not a whit to me if they limit the ball. The game the pros play is absolutely NOTHING like what I play... If you think you're even close, you are delusional... (other than the 3-4 pros who do post here )
