Diamond Creek

Anyone have any information on this course?

I hear it is very good, and somewhere in North Carolina, but all of the search engines come up empty.
Live Jupiter, Fl, was  4 handicap, played top 100 US, top 75 World. Great memories, no longer play, 4 back surgeries. I don't miss a lot of things about golf, life is simpler with out it. I miss my 60 degree wedge shots, don't miss nasty weather, icing, back spasms. Last course I played was Augusta

Is this the course near Linville, NC owned by Wayne Huezinga and the sister course to the Floridian...RHE

It is the Wayne H. course.  Search for the fairly recent thread on the Golf Digest best new course (I believe Matt Ward started).  Jim Lewis offered some very favorable thoughts.   Daryl Boe has also played it -- and may have photos of it.

I have some great pics, what I dont have right now is enough time to post them and give any kind of report.  Maybe tonight after everyone else in my house goes to bed I will do so.

For now suffice it to say it is a spectacular place.  Here are a couple of quick pics.

The fourth hole is a beautiful par 5.  This view is taken from up above the 3rd green before you walk over to the 4th tee.  The hole plays from a line slightly to the left of this line of sight.

The 5th is a great par 3 while only being 160 yds from the back tees, the green provides plenty of undulations to keep you interested.  And the right hand hole locations behind those bunkers require some great shotmaking to get it close.

By the way is it just me or are the pics on the website linked above not the best?  Maybe I should offer to sell them some of mine.

View from the tee of the par 5 7th hole back down the valley with 9th green and the clubhouse in the distance.  The hole is a great 3 shotter with the green tucked back in to the left behind bunkers and some rock outcroppings.  However the huge green has an opening and mounding and undulations that will allow you to hit something drawing in from the right bouncing and running up onto the green.

The 9th hole a par 4 that can play 515yds from the very back tee if you are so inclined.  From the more manageable yardages (440 if you call it that) you will have a long iron into another large green with some nice undulation.

The 10th hole starts with some tee boxes that are located adjacent to the clubhouse.  I always love tee boxes that are that close to the clubhouse.  I just has a good feel about it.  The approach shot to the green is bulkheaded in on the front right with this stone deliniating the boundary between the greensite and a ravine to the right.

This view is from way right of the line of play for a better view.  You would be (or at least should be) playing the hole from the fairway seen to the left

The false front on the 11th green.  Can you believe these two balls stayed up on the putting surface.  This is another interesting putting surface at Diamond Creek.  The greens were some of the finest I have ever putted on.  They were firm and fast and so was the approach collars and other areas of the course when I was there (July).

The par 3 12th hole.  Beautiful but deadly.  The large two tier nature of the green is not readily apparent from the tee, but provides lots of interest.

The 13th a par 5 measuring 555yds from the back.

The landing area on the 13th hole.

The 14th hole a par 4 of 430 from the back tees playing slightly downhill.  This is the view of your approach again slightly down hill.

Sorry gotta run again, I will continue with the last few holes later.....

I've played Diamond Creek about five time and just returned from a trip in South Florida playing The Floridian. In my opinion I really didn't care for Diamond Creek. The 10th and 11th holes both short par 4's were terrible and the 18th hole could be the worst finishing hole on the planet. The front nine is a endless journey up,up and up then down down down up up then down. I'm more of a tradionalist and all it be not a very good piece property for the money they spent I would expect more. The clubhouse is very nice and the 17th is spectacular. So I guess my final words would be Tom Fazio designed and its everything you would expect from him.

Just trying to find this thread to look at something.  Anyone know how else to find a thread when using the search function other than brining it back to the top by posting a new response?

I am sure there is another way, but rather than browsing through many pages to find out where this is exactly it just seems easier to post a reply and cause it to pop back to the top.

You can find a thread you have made posts on by pulling up all your previous posts or in this case, using the search feature and typing in the word Diamond Creek.

Daryl,

Do you have any photos of the last few holes of Diamond Creek?  I'm looking forward to seeing the finish, especially #17 which a few people have said is quite good.

Thanks for posting the terrific pictures.

I should have pictures of every hole I think. Although I am never sure how good the light direction is on any of them.  Also as mentioned above 18 is a little anti-climactic after the other holes.  But 17 is pretty impressive.

I will have to find those pics and post them later.
