winter dreams...
« on: January 23, 2005, 11:38:08 AM »
sitting here reading old threads and wishing SO badly that I could be playing golf (9 degrees in CHicago today with at least a foot of new snow), I ask those who are stuck in similarly bad weather:  if you could be magically transported anywhere to play golf right now, where would it be?  Casa jumps to mind..but maybe somwhere in Hawaii or Australia?!?!?
199 played, only Augusta National left to play!

Cape Kidnappers!  I am assuming the weather there is warm right now and the pictures of that place are stunning.

Last night was the first moment of absolute exasperation I've had this winter.  Took me 2 hours to shovel the driveway with snow blowing back in my face and mild frostbite nipping at my ears.  These next couple of months are awful and the urge to hit the links is overwhelming, not so much to actually hit the shots but to walk on the turf and smell the grass and hear the sounds of golf.
I'd head to Australia, no doubt.  The weather this time of year is superb.

I'll go with you, Matt.

Melbourne, including a two-day jaunt to Barnbougle.

Let's go!

I know how you feel Matt...my first official sign of the winter blahs hit a few weeks ago while working in downtown Chicago and gazing out the window at yet ANOTHER gray sky...was in Nashville on work last week...hoped to play  somewhere last Tues but the high temperature was 25 that day (average high supposed to be 49; it was 70 the week before I got there)....and then yesterday 12 inches of snow....I always tell me wife that when we retire we'd better get away after January for a month or two; otherwise, I'll turn into the Jack Nicholson character in "The Shining"...only with a golf club

and my oldest daughter told me it was 112 degrees somewhere in Australia yesterday!

Jeff, as Willie Nelson says, "If you got the money, honey, I've got the time".
Melbourne would certainly be my first stop but jaunts to Tasmania and NSW would have to be done as well.

Brad - By the 2020s Havanna will be like the 1920s.  Castro will be gone the doors will be wide open to Americans and they won't be able to build golf courses and resorts fast enough.

This topic is why I love watching the west coast swing so much..

Right now.. as in cab comes to my house, takes me to the airport and the pilot says "where to"..

Take me to Carmel/Monterry.  Morning round at MPCC shore, Afternoon at Cypress with the sun setting as I play 16..

Day 2 Cypress in the morn, pebble as the wind kicks up in the afternoon.

Saddly, I will be in will drafting class tomorrow at 815am, not the first tee at any course.

I'm sitting in my office in Melbourne, it's 3:52pm, it's 28C and bright sunshine outside and I'm an hour and a half's drive from the Mornington Penninsula, home of the National, St Andrews Beach, The Dunes GC etc and Wednesday is a Public Holiday....guess where I am headed? ;D
