You had me worried for a second with the title of the thread.  I'm glad it's not what I thought it might have been.....

And here's the direct link

Dixie Cup II will give you a chance to play one or two.

TigerB,
Make every effort to do just that.  You will be a fan for life, not only of his courage and style, but his (IMHO) truly remarkable talent.  A man who can design both Caledonia and Tobacco Road is a visionary.

I love Mike's work. Tobacco Road is the only course I've acutally visited, but his body of work is really interesting.

As for Bob Cullen...the writer...he is dead wrong when he says "[golf architects as a whole] would generally fit in well at a reunion weekend at Princeton."

I believe that type of voice fosters a stereotype that is inherently incorrect. Golf architects come from a variety of backgrounds. I would say very few — perhaps only a handful — would fit into such an Ivy League class. For the most part we are regular guys who have widely different takes on life.

Mr. Cullen may find delight in this type of casting based on a personal displeasure with a select group of golf architects he feels are 180-degrees apart from Stranz, but I hardly think it lends cerdibility to his words. It's just the typical hype associated with a media story...quite a shame when the real point of his writing should have been Stranz 100%.

Thanks for the link. Strantz is a super talent. I thought the article was excellent (despite the one comment about architects).

...good post Forrest , but I'm a little confused....I always thought the Ivy League was a horticultural society ,are you suggesting otherwise ?....

That's a good point. However, since my only contact was having coffee with a math professor from one of those schools, I cannot say for sure about your theory.

Good read, Bob:

Tobacco road is a great work, and you get an invitation to the bunkering as you drive into the starting gate.  A wonderful collection of nature around the par three hole.

Hang in there Mike, we need more of the likes of you.
