Any first hand info on Archerfield?

This on again/off again project between Muirfield and North Berwick is now a fact.  18 holes in play and another 18 due in the future.  Both designed by that paragon of GCA, David J Russell.

A friend of mine has joined and has asked me to play it.  Anybody know what I have to look forward to?

I've heard of 2 courses in that area and slightly confused.  One being a second course at Muirfield and the second which I'm assuming you are talking about is another private club?   I heard Tom Doak was looking at both?

Rich I did a quick and dirty of them the day after you and I played N Berwick 2 years ago. Jones Jr was sorta still involved then. They looked like crap to me. I am curious about the finished product for it looked like pushed up long straight dirt piles called dunes with flat ground for fairways. The was some dirt movement in the finshed fairways i saw but now much. It was so sad that I got tired of looking after 7 holes and it was getting dark. Oh neither are a part of Muirfield. It was a couple Muirfield members that baited me into looking at it after a few drinks then laughed the night away over dinner after i got back.

Everything you have said rings true to me also.  Its almost like you have spoken word for word what I was afraid to say out loud on this forum...  A large disapointment..  For me the fact that the housing sits between the ocean and the golf course is enough, especially when its neighbour is the proclaimed best course in Britain! and the waste bunkers which break the view to Bass Rock are totally out of place against those dirt mounds you have suggested.
