Courses you don't get
« on: December 05, 2004, 04:20:59 AM »
Hennie Bogan raised an interesting point in the 5 places to revisit thread.  Which are the five highly rated courses that you didn't think so highly of?

Turnberry (great place to go with the wives for a few nights, wouldn't play it again without staying at hotel)

Lytham (just didn't get it!)

Carnoustie (too difficult for me, under 5 cappers tend to love the place)

Hoylake (too difficult for me, made even more difficult for the 06 Open)

Portmarnock (biggest disappointment, seems like many holes are similar)

Ciao

Maybe it's the same with all the courses you mention, but Portmarnock deffinately grows on you the more you play it. It is jammed full of subtilties.

Often mentioned is that it has the best routing of any Irish course. Anyway, maybe you've played it a few times, but if not, don['t give up on it.

I am generally a Pete Dye fan, but I wasn't particularly impressed with Pete Dye GC, or Whistling Straits.  Also, Secession was a huge dissapointment.
