It seems a bit odd that all the current bids are 1 bid increment under the minimum.

The golf components of this are obviously to help support Villanova Golf (team). I used to sponsor their annual fundraiser at GMGC although I have no connection to Villanova Golf. It doesn't hurt that the young Ex. Dir. of GAP is a fairly recent grad of Villanova and Villanova Golf and the man who runs Villanova Golf is a past GAP president. There's a lot of Villanova support around here.

there's also a lot of support for st. joes around here.  i have volunteered at the coaches vs. cancer tournament at huntingdon valley the past two years, and let me tell you , st. joes has some serious boosters, and serious drinkers, but who didn't know that

I think that the minimum bid means the next bid has to be at least that much. For example, akland Hills was going for $775 and the minimum increment is $25 so the next bid has to be at least $800.

I thought the minimums were established in advance.  But you must be right about that.  My bias must be showing.  

When Villanova ditched the Big 5 in the 1980s (since reestablished in the 1990s) they lost my respect.

Wayne, that's funny because I was talking to my brother (Penn alum) about the same thing yesterday. He hates Villanova too for that same reason.

Last year I put in a very serious bid for the Friars Head outing but was outbid at the last minute....since I am now on their list I opened up the email they sent me a ways back about this years auction and was a bit dissapointed in the selection.   With all this talk about playing with women or not...It still hurts me that your wife took a pass on playing with me during out little hickory outing....10 cents can't beat reading a book out on the patio at Ranch Barney..

every non- villanova alum from the philadelphia area hates villanova for one reason or another, the big 5, their main line elitist status,

im from philly and went to maryland but my dad went to nova, so for me Nova has been my favorite big 5 school.  i also think everyone is jealous of their national title from 85

Very rarely does a Penn alum (I am one as well, class of '78) think of Villanova except when interviewing a 'Nova grad for a job    

Jason, jealousy has nothing to do with it, at least for me.  I was proud a Philly school won March Madness.  But the Big 5 is a 50 year tradition that Villanova decided to mess with after their '85 win over Georgetown.  It took a mind-boggling shooting percentage by Villanova that led to a squeaker win over Patrick Ewing and mates.  Was that the last NCAA championship game without a shot clock or the first with it?  I can't remember.  By the way, what is so elite about Villanova  

I'm glad the Big 5 is back because they are some of the best games--even better at the greatest basketball arena in the country, The Palestra.  Big 5 games are like watching a Penn-Princeton game, always a great game.

The Villanova golf team practices out at French Creek fairly often, and they sure seem to be a great bunch of guys.  Very friendly and gentlemanly, and they can play too.

It's funny, actually.  When you park your car at FC, you can see the driving range.  If you see a dozen players with really great looking swings, you know that Villanova is back
