New Golf Course/Architecture books

Last night in Borders I saw a beautiful new book called Scottish Golf Links: A Photographer's Journey
by Iain Macfarlane Lowe. Some incredible pictures along w/ some architectural drawings by Kyle Phillips of some of the renowned holes (including the Poastage Stamp).

This also got me thinking when will we see:

Tom Doak's - The Making of Pacific Dunes.

George Bahto's follow on to The Evangalist of Golf.

Mr. Paul & Mr. Morrison's book on Flynn.

Any others in the works that are of interest?

Classics of Golf (www.classicsofgolf.com) will be releasing several new books & also a few additions to its classics library next year.

Two of them are a history of the U.S. Amateur told through in-person interviews with all past living champions, and a unique look at Augusta National titled, Every Day is Ladies day at Augusta. This is written by Helen Casey, whose husband Sam, is a past member for many years. It is supposed to tell the truth about the relationship between women & Augusta National. From what I've seen of the manuscript it looks very interesting.

Thanks for the heads up on 'Scottish Golf Links.'  I just eyeballed a copy at the local Borders and all I can say is "WOW!" Without a doubt the finest golf course photos I have ever seen. The text looks interesting as well. It goes immediately to the top of my Christmas wish-list.

I'm still a bit too busy to finish writing my book on Pacific Dunes.  The pieces are on the desk next to me, but at this point it will be Christmas 2005 at the earliest.

The best architecture book I've seen recently is Paul Daley's book, Great Golf Holes by Design.  I did contribute an essay, but it was far short of the best one included.

I found this today after Dan Wexler told me Horace Hutchinson's famed British Golf Links will be out in early 2005.. Looks like some other cool books too.

Thanks so much for the plug; I didn't even realize that info was up on the website.  I must say that commercial considerations aside, I'm truly excited about the books we plan to produce.  British Golf Links is an obvious highlight but Hilton & Smith's The Royal & Ancient Game of Golf (1912) is comparably impressive (not to mention rare) and Darwin's Golf Courses of Great Britain will be the expanded/revised 1925 edition, which very few have seen.

We've definitely selected titles that we hope an educated audience like this one will find the most interesting, including Darwin's very rare Golf From The Times, which is just being released at present.

Needless to say, reader feedback is most welcomed.

I'm planning a large-format, coffee-table style book on New Mexico's golf courses.  It will be mainly a photographic journey through the wonderful links we have here in our picturesque settings - should be out late 2005.

Thanks to some terrific advice from seasoned writers (DW, GS, and others) it appears that we are close to getting a publisher for our Flynn book.  While still at an early stage in negotiations, we are starting to feel good about the direction the project is taking and some added scope that Tom Paul is very passionate about.  The writing is ongoing and we hope to have the book out sometime in early 2006.  While it won't be out in time for the US Am at Merion, hang in there ladies and gents, we feel confident that it will be worth the wait.

Eric, good luck with your book project.  

I hope to get the Lowe book on Scottish golf courses after dinner.  It sounds great.

A slight correction. The title of Paul Daley's book is "Favourite Holes by Design". He has another book scheduled for next spring. fswing@bigpond.net.au
