Whistling Dukes

Now that Herb Kohler has bought a sizeable chunk of the Scottish landscape, is it only a matter of time before 1100 new bunkers appear at the Dukes???

Not sure how fast the bunkers might appear at the Dukes, but the plumbing, showers and fixtures at the Old Course Hotel will sure be nice.

Brian

One of the more quaint of the British prejudices about things American is that our toilets are, how can I say it, well......crap.  So, I'm not sure that Herb should be thinking about making any changes plumbing wise, at least in the short term.

However, bringing over his main man Dye to sort out the Dukes course (and maybe doing a little work on the sly on that cow pasture to the rear of his new hotel) might be worth a go! ;)

Rich,

The thing I've found about Europe (and GB&I) is that simplicity is not a virtue.  Why allow people to only learn a single means of using the "handle" which causes the toilet to flush when 8 to 12 variants can be created, and vary from city to city or country to country.   Nobody should be given a free ride in learning those things at a young age...make the learning last a lifetime...and maybe someday it'll even be a conversation piece in the pub.  Wonderful concept ;)

I appaud Herb Kohler for doing this.

As a former Chicago Resident, my wife and I made numerous trips to Kohler, and always enjoyed Pete Dye's courses.

He took a sleepy little mill town, and tourned it into a golf destination. I'm sure his ambitions, will be to purchase some additional land sites in Scotland, and build a golfing mecca.

As Pete Dye ages, look for him to team up with Tom Doak and/or Coore and Crenshaw to give all of us great courses.
Live Jupiter, Fl, was  4 handicap, played top 100 US, top 75 World. Great memories, no longer play, 4 back surgeries. I don't miss a lot of things about golf, life is simpler with out it. I miss my 60 degree wedge shots, don't miss nasty weather, icing, back spasms. Last course I played was Augusta

Cary, Cary, Cary,
Scotland now has over 540 golf courses occupying more than 50,000 acres.

There are 5 million Scots (and a few English and American interlopers - Rihc included!)

This equates to 1 golf course per 10,000 bodies. (The figure for the USA is 1 per 17,000).

We ARE already a Golfing Mecca!!!

Ooooooppppppppps, so sorry. Bad choice of words. :o

Beat me a 1000 times with a wet noodle.

What I meant to say, was a person might be able to stay a week in one place, instead of a couple of days.

Cary,
no apologies necessary. No-one is more acutely aware of our shortcomings than we humble Scots. I'd love (both personally AND professionally) to see LOTS more Golf Courses here.

BUT, I'd be happy to discuss our national Tourism Policies and their (lack of a) relationship to our Planning (Zoning to you guys) Guidelines with you over a wee dram some time!
