Palm Springs/Rancho Mirage Best Courses
« on: October 05, 2004, 03:03:19 PM »
It has been at least 15 years since I have been to the Palm Springs area, last played PGA West a few years after it opened.

I was wondering what the treehouse would recommend and also pan, as I know there has been a ton of stuff done out there.
Live Jupiter, Fl, was  4 handicap, played top 100 US, top 75 World. Great memories, no longer play, 4 back surgeries. I don't miss a lot of things about golf, life is simpler with out it. I miss my 60 degree wedge shots, don't miss nasty weather, icing, back spasms. Last course I played was Augusta

Cary,

The Palms is either the second or third best desert course I have ever played (Behind only Shadow Creek and maybe Casacta).  That written, do not look for any desert.  I believe it to be Curly / Schmidt's best work.  Other than that, PGA West is a blast to play once and I really liked Dye's CC of the Desert.  One last note, the Palms is private, if that matters.

And I took full blame then, and retain such now.  My utter ignorance in not trumpeting a course I have never seen remains inexcusable.

Dye's CC of the Desert is now The Hideaway. It was taken over by Discovery Land Co, the developers of Estancia and Mirabel in Scottsdale.

Steve,

From the web site, it appears that they got rid of 9 of Dye's holes.  Do you know why?  I liked the 9 holes Clive built (It was 27 when we were there) but I thought Shooter was going to puke his guts out at the par 3 with all of the waterfalls and flower beds (Shooter lacks taste anyway, so what do you expect).

I don't know why that happened. I met the sales manager of Hideaway in April when I played Mirabel in Scottsdale. All he talked about was how surprised he was the project was almost sold out of lots. I've not played there but plan to do so when I next visit the area.

I've heard good things about The Palms.

How about Palmer's Tradition? I heard it's one of his better courses since he has a house there.

Cary/Quassi,

There are myriad threads on Palm Springs on this site. All you need to do is use the Search feature to find them. I wish folks on here would use this feature more often to eliminate redundancy. Here's how:

Click on the Search button above.
Type in the search words (eg Palm Springs)
Click on Advance Search
Scroll to "Maximum days since last post" box and type 9999 or something large like that.
In the "Maximum number of  posts" box type 999 or something large like that.
Voila! Many many threads and hundreds of erudite posts about Palm Springs golf. Here are just a few:
