Hacker requried for Dornoch
« on: February 10, 2003, 09:00:22 AM »

The moveable feast called "Barona in Dornoch v. 2.1" (aka "Not an Official GCA Event" or "Golfapalooza (tm)") is on for late April early May.  10+ GCA'ers will be attending.

We MAY, however, be needing one legitimate 13-24 handicap golfer to play with the group in the Burghfield Open on May 3.  The cost for entry would be $50-55 (plus hotel room , vittels, booze, transport from point A to the far North of Scotland, etc.).

Any interested parties please apply.

Is this the humble beginnings of the Buda?  If so its hard to believe this seed became the longest running yearly event on the GolfClubAtlas calender!

The King's Putter was first played in Spring 2002.   ;)

Tom, what year was the KP not held due to lack of interest?

Touche!  We did miss a year - not for lack of interest - oh far far from that - but for lack of organizational timeliness

But we did start earlier, so neener neener neener.  And our first one had 36+ participants.  Goodale was one of them.

Yes, this was the first "BUDA."  I called it "Barona in Dornoch" to distinguish it from King's Putter #1 (which I attended and helped organise).  As noted in my initial post, it was a "Not an Official GCA Event" in that the powers that were a bit snooty at the time about outsiders stealing their thunder.  Come to think of, they still are, and all BUDA's except the one that Ran attended (IV @ Hoylake) were and are still unoffical (although if the Emperor does make it to Deal, maybe the Imprimatur will again be temporarily granted......

BinD (notice the similar consonant structure to Buda....) was attended by about 15 people and included particupation in two medal/stroke play rounds at Dornoch, many of which prizes were won by Budaites/BinDites.  WE played Brora also and a great time was had by all--so great, in fact, that we decided to set slomething up at Painswick the next year, and the rest is history....

You'll notice the "reserved VIP" for 2009, it is just in case Ran can make it back to Deal, on his last visit we just walked a few holes before he played Sandwich.
