Mark-
I played 36 Holes at Crag Burn back in June. It is fantastic. Darryl referred to the course as flat, but coming from the Low Country of South Carolina, I would describe it as rolling terrain.(Course is built on part of the Knox Estate, I think !)
Crag Burn is strictly a golf club, and from what I am able to gather, home to the best players in Buffalo. Amazing practice facility.
The golf course itself is exceptional. Many of the holes appear to be cut out of a giant field of heather. This stuff is 4 ft high in some places. (Miss one in here, and it is gone).
Terrfic variety of Holes. #2 is a pure 3 shotter, although the Assistant Golf Professional told me that Lonnie Nielsen hit it in 2 on his way to a course record 64. Hole is 600 + fronted by water. #14 is a two shot par 5. Several strong short par 4's. #11 approx 340 with one of the most wild greens I have seen in some time. Very small, rolls off on one side, bunkers in front and left. My favorite hole on the course.
If we use the ability to remeber every hole on the golf course as a yardstick for a courses merit, this one falls easily into my top 10, an absolute pleasure. Keep in mind it is very private, but if you can play it, it is worth the trip.
While in East Aurora, be sure to hit the Bar Bill for a Beef on Weck washed down with a Molson Canadian.
