From the above post, don't get me wrong, Dave, I love Merion's thirteenth, too. It is a sweet little hole with the blind green surface (At least it used to be, haven't played it since the bunker-re-do), just what you want in a shortie, the tease of a birdie, but the threat of a double.
I am just so in enamoured with #11 Shinnecock, I still remember like it was yesterday that I made 2 and 6 the first two times I played it,
and that doesn't affect my opinion. Much. The thread about discomfort that was active a few weeks ago, I mentioned #10 Shinnecock, #11 is also rife with that uncertainty, at least for me.
(Made 2 and 2 at Merion 13 first two tries and probably not since! and that doesn't affect my opinion there.)
I have been accused of being a long hitter (Used to be anyway) and my favorite types of holes in order are short par 3's with carnage, death and disfigurement lurking all round, then short par 4's. Go figure.
