If you given the chance to study any course on this years PGA tour which ones would you choose?

You are allowed up to 10 choices.

Westchester or Doral?
What does it matter if the poor player can putt all the way from tee to green, provided that he has to zigzag so frequently that he takes six or seven putts to reach it?     --Alistair Mackenzie--

A couple that haven't been mentioned:

Shinnecock Hills

Mirasol (Fazio's course for the Honda was actually very fun   to watch despite a less than stellar field, the crowned greens were a welcome change)

Whistling Straits

Jimmy,

Of the PGA courses that have interested me the most I would say that Mirasol would be in the top five.  I thought about the following:

TPC Sawgrass
Riviera
Muirfield Village
Harbour Town

Mirasol really stunned me because of everything I had heard on here about Fazio, I thought it was an interesting course to watch on the TV.

I think you have to take Pebble out as well. It is not a PGA event. Riviera, Cog Hill, Colonial and Harbor Town. That really is not much from a whole year.

Tiger,

The AT&T is not a PGA Tour event?

Since we're talking about the AT&T, Spyglass is supposed to be intereting as well, one possibly added to the list.

I fear the European list is even poorer.  Apart from whatever course hosts the Open what have we?  Wentworth, Royal Zoute, wherever they stage the Dutch Open (Haagsche, Noordwijk, Kennemer, Hilversumsche).....  Not good news.

   Brian,

This year I would jump ship to ladies tour and study both

Wykagyl (mostly Ross) because of its great land and its variety.

In addtion, I would study the  Orchards which is also by Ross.

If confined to mens tour  Id like to see Forest Oaks per its

interesting green complexes.  Above all, Kapalua would be

great.    I  think  Davis Love and Paul  Cowley created the

 putting interest at  Forest Oaks.

I hope this helps.

Are they having the Canadian Open at Hamilton again this year or is it being moved?  If it is still at Hamilton I think you'd have to throw that one in, that was a fascinating course last year.

Gerry, do you know why?  Was it just a fill in course for a year?

they move the canadian open around now. Glenn Abbey is not the permanent home anymore, even though it is hosting this year.

the rcga rotates and favours glen abbey when it is held  in the toronto area as they are headquarted there
Hamilton (a Harry Colt masterpiece) was always considered to be a great course to hold the Canadian open in spite of its relatively short length. I suppose enough people lobbied the selection committee and the club itself -plus they have 27 holes to allow for additional infrastructure.

The Open is going to Shaughnessy in Vancouver - will be interesting how they set up that course to challenge the players.
There are many great courses on both sides of the border that are deserving of holding a National Championship - however for a variety of reasons -

ie

lack of room for grandstands and corporate tents
lack of infrastructure - ie access and parking
membership does not want the interruption - especially in the north where the season is short
club does not need the money
potential damage to the course
restricted memebership - ie no women and or minorities

Gerry,

Exactly. Fazio is designing the RCGA eastern headquaters here in Montreal. It's being designed for the canadian open. It will hold the 2006 open. I guess that takes Royal Montreal off the open map.

Matt:

Royal Montreal off the rotation would be a shame. It is the oldest course in North America. Correct me if I am wrong -did Tiger miss the cut there a few years ago?

Ya, Tiger missed his one and only professional cut at Royal Montreal in 1997. (remember that....it could mean a big payday in golf trivia one day  ;D)
