Most Embarrassing Golf Club You Ever Owned...
« on: May 20, 2004, 12:14:15 PM »
I admit to buying the Killer Bee....it was really long for a while....my partner in an upcoming member-guest has the Short Game Wizard...I don't ask him to play with the slightest thought of winning.

I have to say I can not take anything serious that JC has to say after reading his take on The Perfect Club....but then again today I have forgiven redanman for everything he ever said about Fazio just because he still loves his first wife...note...The Power Pod was a great club.

A two-ball belly putter; total sell-out! :'(

Ping 1A putter (circa 1970)

Everyone on the golf course knew I was there as the "ping" could be heard from the other end of a par 5.

Sold it for $2500!

I have always wanted to hear this on the Open telecast...

Miller - "What does Tiger have in, Roger?"
Maltbie - "82 yards to the front, 90 to the pin"
Miller - "A little knock down Alien, or is it a full Diamond Faced Scoring Wedge?"
Maltbie - "I gotta believe the Alien is the shot..."

I had those old Spaulding Executive irons - the ones with the pitted-looking cavities in the back and strange, funky lettering - but then again, everyone had those...

..note...The Power Pod was a great club.

Can't say that I'm familiar with the Power pod.

I found a Spalding Executive 3 iron one time with a crooked aluminum shaft. Somebody had tried to wrap it a round a tree or something. I could knock that thing 200 yards straight as string until some knucklehead tried to straighten it out for me.

Love the perfect Club JakaB. You should try it, it's taylor made for someone as quirky as you.

I still have a hickory "anti-shank" iron which, when I went to demonstrate it's powers to a friend of mine, I promptly shanked into his back bedroom.......

Mine would be the Callaway Divine 9. It was truly a sweet club but I quit playing with it and sold it in a garage sale for like $10.00.

Ah, stealing your mother's clubs, another taboo uncovered.  Let's call it Golf's version of oedipal theft.

I didn't steal my mother's clubs, they were handed down to me, including my Ping imitation irons I played with for about 13 years until 1997.  Up through my mid-teens, even my first year or two on the HS golf team, I had Patty Berg persimmon woods.

But the club that I got the most razzing about on the HS golf team was a mallet putter I used for awhile.  Looked kinda like a Tight Lies or Perfect Club with 2 degrees loft.  The 3rd tee at Chemung Valley (now Willow Creek) was right on the river bank.  I'd tee up that mallet putter and almost clear the river 200 yards across.

Has anyone ever taken a device sold on TV out to the range when other people you know are around...I am dying to try an Inside Approach but find the whole process messy and embarrassing.    I once had a pro who was giving me a lesson tie me up with that blue swing trainer thingy.....It was probably an inside joke.

Other than Mike and me, who else has a Medicus? I just got the new dual hinge model. I am not that impressed with it.

Mine was a whole set. British Air lost my clubs at Heathrow, they turned up seven weeks later, they were found in their Bomb Disposal unit.

In the interim while waiting for some new clubs to arrive, I started to use some knock-offs, I think they were called King Snakes.

Imagine my horror when I got a call that I was a possible stand-by to play in the Franklin Shoot-Out Pro-Am at The Sherwood C.C. in Thousand Oaks. The thought of Greg Norman (having just made a quick fortune when Fortune Brands bought Cobra), looking into my bag and seeing the counterfeits, was too much, I was glad the call didn't come!

I had a medicus also. Not the 5-iron model either, the driver! So cool.

Did anybody actually watch the Davis Love video that came with?

Dead heat between the MacGregor Response ZT and the immortal Bronty Chipmaster.  The ZT still gets the odd outing and the odd, odd look, the Chipmaster is now landfill.

Bump.  This thread still cracks me up.

I'd add The Hammer in the past 6 years.
