At least in the Piedmont, Ross and the Ross style dominates. Wondering why, I came up with a couple of reasons:

1. Ross was the only major Golden Age designer to live in the SE. He owned the region and got virtually all the best jobs. (People were shocked when Jones gave the ANGC project to MacK, for example.)

2. If drainage is destiny, Ross's style reflects his understanding of how clay soil drains. His greens, bunkers, contouring all excel at draining water horizontally. (Cuz water won't percolate in clay.)

3. Ross was willing to lend his name to a lot of low budget projects. The SE had little money at the time, but a big appetite for golf courses. With Ross you got the nameplate at a discount.

Just thinking out loud.

How's this for a list of SE courses:

Pinehurst #2
Seminole
East Lake (re-do)
Holston Hills
Pine Needles
Charlotte CC (also a re-do, and was on GD's Top 100 for 8 years)

Any other architect come close to this SE list?
