Ye Olde Tales of the Architect...
« on: April 14, 2004, 08:55:43 AM »
Bill Fownes stood by a green one day
When someone holed in four.
“I’ll put a stop to that”, said he
“I’ll build two bunkers more!”

And sure enough he built them both
Where they could well be seen,
The first one right before the tee,
The other on the green.

...and soon was heard " Hey Bill, what gives?
Have you stepped off the deep?
What were you thinking my good man,
these bunkers are too steep!!

We took a vote and offer this,
a way to keep the peace,
Stop working on the course yourself,
hire Rog or Tom or Rees!!

Tilly in his final year
reflected on his long career.

"My Principles when young I found.
Near fifty years I spread the word.
I made my vision clear, no doubt.
In print, in person, in the ground.
Now I die, at peace, assured,
No man can say that I sold out."
